Tonight in Seattle:

Hello, economic crisis. Goodbye, King Cobra.

Sad news today: Seattle rock venue King Cobra is about to shut its doors, effective this Friday.

The official word from King Cobra Booking just hit my inbox:

Hey Everyone,

King Cobra will in fact be closing its doors for good this Friday.

I'm more then happy to answer any questions you have.

Thanks for everything,

Justin

Sad, sad, sad. No word yet on all the great shows they had on their calendar for March and beyond. Do you have scoop? If so, please share it below in the comments, and I will update this blog post accordingly.

Am I alone, or did this venue kind of suck?

Don't know if you're alone, but I do think you're totally wrong.

King Cobra was one of the very best venues in Seattle. Every show I saw there had great sound, crowd, and brilliant line-ups for the evening. I'll never forget the Cancer Rising, Heavy Hearts, and other shows that made me fall in love with those bands. Great vibes coordinated by a staff who cared. I only regret not hitting it more often. Mad love to the people there, including their awesome head of security.

Greg: You're not alone. King Cobra did indeed suck, consistently bringing a succession of third rate bands that no one wanted to see to a justifiably indifferent Capitol Hill. If you're going to compete for the live entertainment crowd in that neighborhood, you'd better bring your A game, which KC never did.

Wait a second, I actually hadn't seen a show there in a few months. I think they did bring their A game at one time, but maybe the booking stopped trying. My response to Greg was from shows I'd seen there before and during last year's Block Party, which was some time ago. Maybe you have a point.
