Tonight's show at Chop Suey features Sebastien Tellier, a French follower of Serge Gainsbourg, but the real reason you should go to this show is for the opening band, Chairlift.

I remember the first time I heard their single, "Bruises". It was in an iPod commercial last year. As you only usually hear the hook, it was easy to get seduced by singer Caroline Polachek's harmonies when she sings "I tried to do handstands for you" over and over again. She sounds optimistic and in love (which sounds unrequited until bandmate Aaron Pfenning's harmonies kick in on a single verse). With its steady, 4/4 beat and poppy melody, this song is an electronic gem.

Chairlift is a 3-piece band from Brooklyn who has a knack for crafting catchy, electro pop songs. They released a very good album last year in Does You Inspire You. Some songs are haunting and others are, like "Bruises", great pop songs that sometimes straddle the line with trip hop. I'm very anxious to see how these songs translate in a live setting, but I've really enjoyed them on, well, my iPod.
