See any great shows this weekend?
Submitted by imaginary dana on September 8, 2008.I don't know about all of you, but I've been in a moderate funk all weekend, after too many days spent reading political blogs. I tried to step away as much as I could this weekend, but I'm somewhat obsessed -- not to mention, consistently horrified by how we have grown into a nation of extremely poor spellers (among other things).
Save me from my general malaise; tell me about all the great rock and roll shows you saw this weekend, pretty please. We've got reviews up of the Karl Blau, Fuck Buttons, and the Centro-matic shows (the latter of which included a surprise appearance by John Roderick of the Long Winters!), with Ratatat and Mogwai coming shortly.

HOLY CRAP WILL SOMEONE AT THE SHOWBOX PLEASE FIX THE BLOWNOUT/CRISPYASS SPEAKER ON THE LEFT SIDE. for real. it nearly, yes nearly ruined a killer set by BRMC, but since they are complete badasses in everyway they overcame it.
WORST SOUND IN THE SHOWBOX EVER.
it's a good thing that BRMC put on some of the best rock shows around, otherwise I'd actually be pissed. HAHA

Matt Sheehy and the Believer's CD release party on Sunday at Nectar was rad. I missed the first band, but the other openers were Ritchie Young of Loch Lommond and Husbands Love Your Wives.
Good sets by all. Love Ritchie Young's voice especially combined with Pia's (don't know her last name, also of Loch Lommond). Plus I dig his strummed electric fiddle stylings, sort-of ukulele meets banjo.
I hadn't seen Matt Sheehy with his band; he's normally all loop pedals and such; but it felt like the Believers really owned the songs. Nice mix of head-nod and heart-throb. But I love his songs because the lyrics both sound awesome and I've spent days debating the meanings of a few.
Couldn't believe I was one of maybe seven people there.
P.S. Dirty jokes are the funniest when told by post-feminism men who can't say the word "titties" on stage.
