Like a lot of non-profits during the recent economic crisis, our fair Bitch Magazine has fallen on some hard times. With everyone's spending dollar belts being tightened and the growing (and not surprising) trend of folks going digital versus print for their media, the pro-gal magazine is about to go out of business. Basically, they need to raise $40,000 by October 15th in order to print the next issue of Bitch.
More than living hand to mouth, they are working towards a plan for the magazine to be able to sustain itself (it's a non profit, reader-funded media organization):
While it's true that $40,000 is a lot of money, we know the number of you Bitch supporters is in the hundreds of thousands. And we're asking each of you who values independent, nonprofit media and intelligent feminist cultural analysis to contribute what you can to ensure that Bitch thrives. And while we can't say what form Bitch will take in the future (our direction will depend, in part, on your feedback), we can say that we've been hard at work to find an innovative publishing model that will allow us to maintain the spirit and integrity of Bitch while also reflecting the changing world around us. (more)
I'd rather not imagine a world in which I couldn't gift my nieces (at the appropriate age of course) a subscription to combat the drivil of Cosmo and MTV culture sure to surround them.
For more information about how to donate or help, here's the skinny from Bitch's mouth:

My sister and I used to leave issues of Bitch around the house during the holidays to make our aunt uncomfortable.
This is sad news :C
