Do you remember the "Celebrity Jeopardy" sketches from "Saturday Night Live"? The ones where Will Ferrell plays an incredulous Alex Trebek who gets so frustrated with the guests that he starts asking the slowest of slowball questions. That's what this clip from Katie Couric's interview with Sarah Palin reminds me of.
Couric asks Marge Gunderson Palin to name just one magazine or newspaper she reads to stay informed and rather than say something right-wing rag like National Review or The Washington Times (still controlled by the Moonies!) or something safe like The Washington Post or Newsweek she says "all of them". Jesus. That's not an answer to "what newspapers do you read to stay informed?", it's the correct answer to "which of the 6 sweaters that you got for Christmas from Grandma is your favorite?".
Watch it and weep for the fate of Democracy in America for yourself:
Somewhere Tina Fey is asking herself how she can top this shit.

The sad / easy part is, Tina Fey doesn't need to do anything -- she just needs to read the transcript to turn it into a comedy act.

Only one night until the VP debate comedy-a-thon!!!

Holy fuck.
Here's what to expect from the VP debate.
Joe Biden = answers that consider political undercurrents and heavily reference Constitutional law.
Sara Palin = answers that frequently aren't coherent sentences, let alone coherent ideas.

scary.

I know it's kind of a long shot but I'm hoping for a miss teen South Carolina type moment where Palin says something like "I personally believe that, therefore, such as, the Iraq and other Asian countries..."
I feel like it's a bad sign when a lot of people are tuning into a Vice Presidential debate not to see two candidates confront important issues, but to see just how badly one candidate will make an ass of themselves.

Not to be a doomsayer, but Palin is not going to crash and burn tonight. And even if she does, the spin will be that the moderator was biased against her. Palin will just act all charming and average to get that middle America vote. She doesn't have to say anything, really. So, don't get your hopes up.

I concur with Erik most likely, but I share your collective enthusiasm for the potential jackassery of the night. If Palin hasn't made a couple of Couric-worthy gaffe-rambles before the debate is done, I will consider it a FAIL.
In more shiny happy news, did you all hear that McCain has pulled out of Michigan?

Just in time for tonight!!

Palin did ok in the debate, no big gaffes, and better than she has done recently. However Biden won the debate on substance.
