In between the onslaught of signatures and tiny electronic files that run my 9 to 5, I found this listing just now:
Sat, Dec. 13
The Tractor & Pabst Blue Ribbon presents
6th ANNUAL DOUBLE ALBUM CHRISTMAS BENEFIT SHOW
feat. The Who's Quadrophenia in its entirety, in order, different band for every song
details TBA
Can you imagine the possibilities??? Seriously. I mean, if this is really happening, and it's really going to be one, giant, continuous operatic night of goodness - this could be anywhere from totally decent to Really. _____ing. Good. So good that I'd be using words like ____tastic, __________, and _____alicious with reckless abandon.
Here's the track list from the original record, that came with all kinds of inserts and stories and hits (more info, in case you need to brush up):
Side one:
Side two:
Side three (!!! vinyl!):
Side four:
Speculations, as well as actual legitimate info on this, would be much appreciated. I had the privledge of seeing Tommy on Broadway (no, the one in Manhattan, I mean) when I was about eighteen, and it may very well be up there with the top dozen live performances I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
Other little-known nuggets about me include, but are not limited to: my days as a hippie, my enthusiasm for "oldies", and my unabashed love for The Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus. Seriously. Please don't take away my resident card. I just got here.
Just think - think - of how good this might be!!! John Roderick? Large guitars? Somebody put a pot of coffee on and let's get into this. Stat.

The Who is absolutely stellar... I look forward to learning more about this show.

Sounds like a brilliant idea! But, I'm still beyond bitter that Quadrophenia didn't even make it on to KEXP's listener poll for the top 903 albums...To be completely honest, it made me lose a lot of faith in local music fans. So I'm not sure how I feel about the prospect of this show.

Wait a second, Stella, are you saying you don't think that The Arcade Fire's first record is better than anything The Beatles have ever done?
I love The Who as well, although I prefer Tommy to Quadrophenia (just to be the contrarian around here), so I will hopefully be able to make it to this. Sounds like it'll be a lot of fun.
Of course, I don't think I'll be able to get any actual work done today because I'll be thinking about who should be playing what.

I'd trade the Arcade Fire in for the Beatles or the Who anyday.

phew. I'm not alone!
imaginary setlist bits...
the punk and the godfather / helpless dancer - harvey danger
the real me / dirty jobs - long winters
I'm one / love reign o'er me - decemberists, with guest appearances by some twang bands for I'm one
the potential deliciousness of that alone, in any form or combination of bands, leaves me too reeling to even continue to type. omg.

Whoa, viva! Are those the *real* performers or just your wishlist?

Because I know Damien loves The Who, Mr. Jurado on "I'm One."
The Long Winters on "5:15" (and including horns).
Just like the 45 I bought years ago (I'm old).

Oh Chris, you've nailed it with Long Winters on "5:15." I would pay good, solid money for that one!
Is it too much to hope that Ed Ved will show up for something?
