Holy shit, this is awesome.
The Maldives with Grand Hallway's Tomo Nakayama are playing at a rally on Sunday afternoon in Tacoma for Governor Christine Gregoire and veep-to-be Joe Biden, according to what I just read on Facebook. It is scheduled to take place at Cheney Stadium, home of the Tacoma Rainiers minor league baseball team (and the home of my first job) at 2pm. The News Tribune is reporting on their blog:
Sen. Joe Biden is scheduled to appear at Cheney Stadium at 2 p.m. Sunday, according to Nathe Lawver, Pierce County Democratic Party chairman.
The gates open at noon. There is no cost to attend. The stadium holds about 7,500 people in the grandstands and right field bleachers, said Mike Combs, public assembly facilities director for the City of Tacoma.
_____
Gov. Chris Gregoire, who is locked in a tight race with Republican challenger Dino Rossi, also will be at the Cheney Stadium event, Gregoire spokesman Aaron Toso said.
To get in, another website, The Melon, says:
He will be coming to Cheney Stadium in Tacoma, 2502 S Tyler St on Sunday October 19. Doors will open at 12PM. The event is free and open to the public, but a ticket will be required and we request that you RSVP to the Tacoma Campaign for Change office at 253-683-4187 to reserve a ticket.
If you are interested in volunteering that day to staff the event, please email Dustin Lambro, Regional Field Director for the Campaign for Change, at dustin@wa-democrats.org. Volunteer call time is 10AM, and we will need your help until 5PM.
I've been saying privately for weeks that although Barack Obama is polling a double-digit lead over John McCain, Governor Gregoire is in a dead heat in her race against uber-jackass Dino Rossi. I'm glad that Biden is coming out to help Gregoire find some coattails to ride to (hopefully) re-election.

Grand Hallway is NOT playing. I am playing IN the Maldives. Sorry for the confusion, Chris. Y'all should still come out though. Stand up for Obama/Gregoire. Stick it to Rossi.

Oh I'm sorry Tomo, I misread your Facebook status. I stand corrected. Still, everyone get down to Tacoma for it!!

Oh my god, I am so jealous of the Maldives. Maybe they need a saw player or an extra banjo or jaw harp or dancer or masseuse or beer-opener? Let me know, guys, I'll be there. Rock it for JB and CG!
Also Chris, I don't really get what you mean about the "saying it privately" part . . . hasn't that pretty much been common knowledge for a while now? This race is very close and Gregoire isn't doing much to turn it around, so it's really going to be all about turnout. Hopefully Obama will clean up enough on the east coast to depress the Rs and keep 'em home.

I just mean that I haven't written anything about the governors race, only brought it up in conversations. Yes, it's definitely common knowledge that this going to be a tight race. I'm hoping for the same thing!

bummer... the biden campaign decided a high school marching band would be more patriotic than the maldives. oh well. the good news is we all passed the feds' background check, so we'll still get to meet biden and ask him not to screw up in the next three weeks. GOBAMA!

i guess the marching band didn't pass the background check, because they asked us to play after all. go america.

Oh huzzah!! The Maldives are WAY more American, right? Though I'm curious who on marching band kept them from passing the background check...

i was just kidding about the background check! i'm sure all the kids in the marching band are fine upstanding citizens. and yes, we are totally going to play "time is right now", because it totally is.
