The sexy textures of School of Seven Bells tonight!
Submitted by Chris Estey on November 25, 2008.I love Happy Goth music, dark rhythms mixed with sensual female vocals, sinister beats and noise-candy textural guitar. Tonight at Neumos much-adored band M83 will be returning again for their many Seattle fans, but I am just as excited about opening band, Brooklyn's own School of Seven Bells.
I shouldn't be surprised I'm so into SoSB's debut, "Alpinisms," as on songs like "Half Asleep," "My Cabal," and "Wired For Light," Benjamin Curtis shows the same flare for exoticism-meets-MBV pop as was implied by his talented contributions to Secret Machines. Joined by the Deheza sisters, Claudia and Alejandra, their full-length seems like the kitchen sink hymnal break-out of the Arthur Magazine art rock rogue renaissance, and as sweet and gritty as anything on a 4AD sampler from the late 80s/early 90s.
This twinkling two band line up seems irresistible, and might be the first of hopefully more live show highlights of this holiday season.
