Tonight in Seattle:

You're telling me it's in the trees, in the trees? It's not, it's inside me now.

OK, sure, right now it is only a one-shot show... but those single shows lead to tours ... which lead to albums ... which leads to me being excited that NME is reporting that Ned's Atomic Dustbin will be reuniting for a show in December.

For those of you who don't remember (or, quite possibly weren't born) during Ned's heyday, I tend to think they were one of the most underappreciated bands of the early '90s. Although they were lumped into the same pile at EMF, Jesus Jones, Carter the Unstoppable Sex Machine and their ilk, Ned's is likely closer to a prehistoric Bloc Party or Franz Ferdinand. That and no other band (well, other than Morphine) had the nerve to sport two bassists. So, for those of you who missed it, here is a little YouTube primer on Ned's Atomic Dustbin.

"Grey Cell Green" from God Fodder. The grandaddy of all Ned's songs.

"Kill Your Television," also from God Fodder, mostly because it's an awesome song.

"Not Sleeping Around" from Are You Normal? It took me a while to get into this album, but then I think I spent an entire year listening to it.

"Intact," from Are You Normal? Nothing to say except it's great.

"All I Ask of Myself Is That I Hold Together" from Brainbloodvolume. This album got shafted by: the label, the radio, everyone other than me and the former music director at WCFM, Will, who had a giant, I mean 5-6 foot tall, Ned's poster sporting the cover of this album in our meeting room.

"Stuck," from Brainbloodvolume. If anything, this should have been Ned's giant hit they never had.

Wow! My personal life lately has made me feel like I'm back in high school...now I can feel my brain compacting. I remember buying the God Fodder tape when it came out. It was one of those cassettes where the insert wrapped all the way around the tape. I had never heard anything so indie, British and aggressive all at the same time. Next thing you know G 'n R will have a record coming out...

I LOVE the song "not sleeping around" -- it used to be a mix tape staple -- and probably should still be. I'll resurrect it in my next mix... thanks for the reminder Erik!

Wow Erik! I totally named that tune just from the blog post subject line. That's all because of you — I'm pretty sure you included a Ned's song on at least the first 4-5 mixtapes you made me back in the early '90s. Ah, nostalgia.

I am a big fan as well. I was home from college on vacation and was planning to see them at The Roseland in NY, but I decided not to go (I think I was broke or something). My friend, who was in attendance, called me later that night to tell me that they broke up on stage...

I am guessing that was late 1995/early 1996?

This song is a John in the Morning favorite. I think he plays it most pledge drives... so I'd imagine that, at least in Seattle, there's a whole new generation of fans, at least for "Grey Cell Green."

O-M-G! This is great news.

"Brainbloodvolume" is utterly amazing, and their other albums are pretty much great, too. I so, so, so, so hope they come stateside with this reunion, as I never got a chance to see them before. Sadly, I doubt that'll happen. Maybe we'll at least get a new record out of the deal.

That's weird what imaginary dana said, because the only reason I came to this page was because I heard grey cell green on RTR FM in Perth this morning, played by Peter Barr at Breakfast during Radiothon (where they call for everyone to subscribe), which I assume is something like a "pledge drive". I loved the Neddies, but alas my old God Fodder tape is somewhere in my parents house on the other side of the country.
