Worlds colliding: Fleet Foxes' Fleetwood Mac cover
Submitted by imaginary stella on May 29, 2008.OK, so I realize this makes for the second posting about Fleet Foxes on TIG in like two hours. But this is so dreamy, I had to share...
In the midst of my dayjob, I thought I'd take a little break to peruse a certain video-hosting website for some live FF videos to play in the background. I just found this gem: the Foxes covering Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams."
The video and music aren't in perfect sync (sometimes this happens on YouTube -- I don't know why), but it's still worth watching. The clip is dated October 2006 (and judging from the length of Robin Pecknold's hair, I'm guessing that's about right) --putting this as a very early moment in the Foxes' now skyrocketing career.
Anyone out there lucky enough to catch this in person? Dream on...

I know, Chris, I know. I should have waited a week or so to post this one and I'm sorry. I got caught up in my excitement. I definitely don't want to overkill their moment, so your point is absolutely taken.
(Though in my defense, the excitement stemmed equally -- if not moreso -- from the Fleetwood Mac angle on this one!)

All Fleet Foxes All The Time!
I think the current trajectory of FF career right now is exceptional and couldn't happen to a better band or a nicer group of guys!
The response to them at Sasquatch was mind boggling and they were hands down the biggest seller of the weekend for Easy Street on site at the festival.
If their home town can't or won't trumpet their success from the rooftops at all hours, then aren't we ripping ourselves off from the pride and support of one of our home-growns?

Oh I didn't mean to single you out at all Stella (and I don't think I did). No apologies are necessary.
Plus, I don't think the solution is to cut back on Fleet Foxes coverage, I think it's more coverage of other great bands too. :-)

Jesse, you are a very wise man... :)

Fleet Foxes deserve the love and praise.
I too was impressed with Robin's attitude, Chris. And we know how much attitude means.
As for Fleetwood Mac, I am about to do some weird writing about them, as my wife and I have been obsessed with them lately. Our friend Paul put them on an iPod for us recently ("Rumours" which of course is where "Dreams" is from) and we have fallen into a deep pining for them. I went out and bought a bunch of vinyl of theirs for $2 each from that new record store downtown on 1st. Who the hell is Stevie Nicks singing to on "Tusk"? It's another woman, and it freaks me out! (And why was LIndsey Buckingham snorting Buddy Holly and playing speed to make album filler around the Stevie & Christine McVie hits on so many albums?)

I said, please dear lord lord let it be "Dreams" when clicking on this one...
Chris, what's the crossroad of the record store (1st & ___). I'm in the market for some more vinyl and always up for new places.
ChrisB said on May 30, 2008:
Jon, I don't know if it's the record store Chris was referring to but there's a new-ish record store on 1st and Pine or Olive maybe? It's over by Pike Place Market. I think it's called Swerve. There's also one whose name I can't remember on Mercer and Queen Anne that always has good deals on used vinyl. Once in a while you'll find a good deal on something. It's on the same block as the Mecca Cafe and Pagliacci's Pizza.
Jon Harthun said on May 30, 2008:
Oh nice. There was a cool one over on Queen Anne over by Phucket and Sonic Boom. Not sure if it's still there. And if all else fails, Sonic Boom ain't so bad either; Just not as much the Mom & Pop vibe you might want on a day dedicated to vinyl shopping.
...I just realized how ironic this is, considering Fleet Foxes comes right before Fleetwood Mac on my iTunes.

This whole Fleet-wood Foxes word play is priceless. Bravo!

Swerve! That's it! They were playing the new Bauhaus album and it really kicked ass. Wish I had the bucks for it.
ChrisB said on May 29, 2008:
I was ambivalent towards the Fleet Foxes until a couple of weeks ago when Robin Pecknold joined the discussion on the FFs backlash on LineOut and I went from being neutral on them to really, really hoping they succeed (even if they aren't my cup o' tea). His response was eloquent and gracious and humble. Altogether perfect and far more mature than a lot of musicians many years older would give in response to their critics.
But - and I have no axe to grind or any bitterness or jealousy (and would say the same thing about my favorite local band, Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground, if it were true) - TIG becoming All Fleet Foxes All The Time is getting exhausting. Do we really need a blog post on every thing they do?
