We just got some official updates to the big bad SP20 festival this summer, including the Vaselines!!
Here's the official word:
- The Vaselines (first-ever US performance!)
- Les Thugs (they’re from France!)
- Eric’s Trip (they broke up in ’96!)!
SP20 Festival :
July 12 & 13 @ King County’s Marymoor Park Saturday: Flight of the Conchords / The Vaselines / Iron & Wine / Low / Fleet Foxes / Mudhoney / The Fluid / The Helio Sequence / Eric’s Trip / Seaweed / Pissed Jeans
Sunday: Green River / Wolf Parade / Beachwood Sparks / Les Thugs / Foals / No Age / Red Red Meat / Comets on Fire / Kinski / Grand Archives / The Ruby Suns
We also got the not-so-official word that the Shins may be playing {thanks, Ear Candy}. I've got my fingers crossed for that one.
Still no word on TIG faves the Postal Service or Sleater-Kinney, however...
You can get yer tickets for the whole shebang here.

As the biggest selling band currently on Sub Pop's roster The Shins pretty much have to play this show. If they don't that's a pretty big FU to Sub Pop I would think.

While I consider the DeVotchKa pick for CHBP a disappointment, I could not be more excited about the Vaselines playing this festival. I will definitely be there for that (and that means having to make the commute from Redmond to Seattle - which I make every day as it is - and make my way through an awful lot of beard rock.
My (wishful) prediction is that Sleater-Kinney (who never actually broke up) would be willing to play another show just to play with the Vaselines.

DEAR GOD:
PLEASE LET SLEATER KINNEY REUNITE FOR THIS. I'll take back everything.
Love,
Jesse

Death Cab's in Europe during SP20.
07/12/08 Hamburg, GER
07/15/08 Birmingham, UK
While they're off on the 13th, it would be nearly impossible for Gibbard to get here in time to play on Sunday. In a best case scenario, he could land at SEA mid-morning on the 13th, but it hardly seems likely.

Eric's Trip, Vaselines, Seaweed, Low, and Iron & Wine are worth it for me to be going!
Hell, I'd be going if only Eric's Trip were playing.

Jeez, the Vaselines! I sure didn't see that one coming. This is just beyond exciting! I can hardly wait, even if SK doesn't join the party.

People... i can not say this enough... Eric's Trip playing a show after all these years is an amazing event... truly special, amazing, darling, beautiful, sad, lovely, fuzzy (i'm gonna cry)-- one of my FAVE BANDS OF ALL TIME!!! seriously, my heart skipped a beat when i read they've been added... (i'm gonna cry-- did i already say that?)
(give 'em a listen if you've never heard them-- they were "indie" way before "indie" was "indie"... try PURPLE BLUE or FOREVER AGAIN, both brilliant, buzzy, noisy, self recorded gems... of course, nobody likes what i like, so take my advice with a grain of salt... ie, i love supertramp too! *laughs*)

I'm pretty sure that Velocity Girl could be available. Please stop Sarah Shannon from making another lite-jazz record.
