According to the World Wide Web, rumors are flying of both Rage Against the Machine and Prince (!!) appearances at this year's Bumbershoot. If this is true, my brain might just explode in anticipation!
Anyone close to the source know if there's any truth to this nonsense?
Hat tip to Ear Candy!

Even though I started the rumor that Prince was playing CHBP (in fun - he was paid like $5 million to play Coachella, no way anyone has that kind of money), it looks like Billboard is saying that the Prince/RATM inclusions were errors. I hope it turns out that there is truth to them, though!

I hope they're playing on different days than Beck! Because I want to wait in the main stage line with hardcore Beck fans, not RATM fans!

Not psyched for RATM, but Prince?? Holy crap, that would be HUGE for Bumbershoot.

Well it's not like it's April Fool's Day or anything, so a "joke" is likely out of the question. My bet is that someone accidentally leaked the Prince/Rage info and then got schooled for doing so. Here's to awaiting a more official announcement from the B'shoot folks!
(One can hope, right? I can't tell you how badly I want to hear "Purple Rain" in person...)

Okay, so here's the rationale behind how RATM/Prince could actually happen:
OneReel has an agreement with AEG Live to co-produce Bumbershoot. The deal was set up in 2006 I believe, with the thought that AEG Live would help bring in big name headliners. Why can AEG Live help OneReel nab big headliners, well … AEG Live also happens to co-produce Coachella with Goldenvoice.
Both Prince and Rage recently headlined Coachella. Typically a Coachella headlining spot equals a big tour later the same year (ex: Rage, Pixies) and Prince just headlined this year's Coachella. Also, Rage has mysteriously skipped Seattle on its reunion tour.
Also, Metroblogging isn't citing anyone from OneReel denying the rumor of Rage and Prince. All they did was headline a post stating Billboard made an error, and as typical with blogs (myself included sometimes) no source was cited. Add in that Billboard never actually admitted they made an error or posted a retraction, they just rewrote their BShoot description and took Prince and Rage off the original listing, and there's a good chance both will be at BShoot.
Oh, one more interesting fact: Anti-Flag is slated for Bumbershoot this year. Why is that important? Well, Rise Against anounced earlier this year they would be touring with Rage later this year. Could be a coincidence, but it's still noteworthy.
And yes, you can expect to see this same type of post on Ear Candy tomorrow.

To clarify: both the web editor at Billboard and the publicist at OneReel responded to my e-mail to say that it was an error.

This sounds more to me like the blogs perpetuating a rumor, and us Imaginaries now just carrying on the cycle.
I would be really afraid to see how much the ticket prices for the fest would be with either of those acts headlining...
I would also probably be the only Imaginary at the RATM set.

Wait! Did I read that correctly? Risa Against and RATM touring together?! That's a punch in the gut and a bloody nose.

You may be right, elle. Time will tell.
(And for the record, I'd absolutely be at the Rage set!)

There was a typo in my post, Anti-flag is touring with Rages. I tend to get Warped Tour bands confused with one another often, sorry about that.
And while I am not an "imaginary" Travis, I would be at the RATM set in a heartbeat.

From the non-Fleet Foxes love to the Rage fans coming out of the woodwork, I would say we've been uncovering some interesting music opinions around these parts as of late.
