Hear an exclusive new track from Seattle band Shake Some Action!
Submitted by imaginary dana on April 3, 2008.
Local power-pop band Shake Some Action! have been busy working on a follow-up to their self-titled debut ({review} for some time now. The record will be called Sunny Days Ahead, and will be released on June 17th on frontman James Hall's Satellite 451 label.
Speaking of James, he was kind enough to give TIG exclusive access to a new Shake Some Action! song, months before the record officially releases. Huzzah for James!
The song is called "Looking for Someone" and I'm quite fond of it. I'd love to know what you think, so please, click on through for a listen.
Listen now: "Looking For Someone"
According to Hall, the title comes from something Cheryl Waters said during the band's in-studio at KEXP last year. (See the video below. To skip ahead to Cheryl's words, go to 3:54 into the clip. But the whole video is worth watching, as the song "Someone Else's Friend," frankly, kicks jangly guitar ass. And the video just might have been filmed by me. I'm just sayin'.)
Shake Some Action will have a CD release show for Sunny Days Ahead on June 13th at the Sunset in Ballard. Stay tuned to TIG for more info on that one.

I love SSA!(!) I can't wait to get home to listen to it.
Who do they have playing bass these days?
imaginary dana said on April 3, 2008:
Gary plays bass on the record... and rumor has it he's flying back to Seattle for the CD release show on the 13th.
{SSA bass player (and Seattle Powerpop Blog founder) Gary Miller recently up and moved to North Carolina.}

I sure hope so - I really miss Gary - and I'm sure lots of Seattle does too.
I hope he flies back to Seattle for all SSA! shows.

Awesome track – kind of a Beatles “Taxman” fell to it. Love the organ and vocal harmonies…and the guitars, bass and drums…and the lead vocal…the lyrics. Can’t tell you how jealous I am that TIG have exclusive access. ;-)

That bass line rules!
:) ha ha.
I am, indeed, going to fly out for the release show. Let there be rock!

Yay, thanks for confirming, Gary! How's things on the east coast?

Not only is that a smokin' bass part.... the guitar riff is his as well! Gary's got himself some deep pockets filled with great ideas.

Dana -- East Coast is good so far! Chapel Hill is a great place (go Heels!) with a good music scene. I lived here from 1994-1999. So, it's a bit of a homecoming.
Living surrounded by boxes kind of stinks. But, I'm on my second day of work and we're going to start house hunting soon. So, hopefully we'll get settled and out of these temporary digs within a month or two.
I miss Seattle and the music community. But, on the plus side, I got to see one niece and nephew over Easter and I'm going to see the other niece and newphew next weekend! It's all about the fam (as I'm sure you guys can probably relate, what with your new little one and all!).

By the way, Gary, when can I bookmark chapelhill-powerpop.blogspot.com? I need to know what's going on with those Lovely Lovelies!
Powerpop-Gary said on April 5, 2008:
Chris -- In fact you can bookmark it now: www.southernpop.wordpress.com
:)
But, other than design it and set up a myspace page back in January (before the move!), I've done very little with it. I think it'll take a while longer before I'm settled enough to actually work on content.

That guitar gives me chills.
Can't wait for the album!
