First of all, let allow me a self-indulgent moment to gush....
OHMYGOD I AM GOING TO SEE THE MAGNETIC FIELDS SHOW TONIGHT I AM SOOOOOOOOO EXCITED OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!
{Thanks for humoring me.}
Not only are the Magnetic Fields one of my most favorite-ist bands of all time, but this is also the first show I'm going to since my wee girl was born nearly two months ago. Needless to say, I am EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But even I weren't going to tonight's {totally sold out} Magnetic Fields show, I would be tempted to make this my first venture out since mamahood, as there are loads of exciting events around town. Here are some of my top picks for...
What I would be doing tonight if I weren't going to see the Magnetic Fields:
There are plenty of other good options: M. Bison at Chop Suey. Stella By Starlight at the Easy Street Records West Seattle. A Fine Frenzy and Ben's Brother at the High Dive.
You've gotta get out to see SOMETHING tonight. If I can do it these days, you can too.

DJ Craze @ War Room... he is actually a very intriguing DJ. It should be a very bangin' time.

Imaginary Dana, make note of what Stephin Merritt is wearing tonight.
According to New York Magazine, he only wears brown. Ever.

The important thing, though, Dana, is where did you find your tickets at?

oh wow...the magnetic fields show was terrible. But I almost half expected it though. It's just too bad I had to drop so much money (then be raped by ticketmaster's $10 service charge)
1. Stephen lived up to the rumor that he comes off as a total asshole during shows. Flash photography? Heckling for a song? Get over it Stephen, it comes with the territory, keep to your bedroom if you want these impossible shows where everyone sits quietly and worships you every move.
2. I really don't know what i was expecting but it was possibly the most boring show I have ever attended, I mean how hard is it to stand during your performance?
3. Stephen, you have the most horrible fashion sense I have ever experience...nice khaki hat, you are lucky that your voice is awesome.
4. Unassigned seating (and seating in general during live performances) is possibly the lamest adult invention ever. This is no fault of the magnetic fields but probably just a result of the type of venue.
5. Fanboys and girls....laughing at every word out of their mouths....sorry, they weren't funny in the least.

Glad I left (less than) halfway through the show to go see the Voom Blooms and the Duke Spirit at Neumo's. A hell of a lot more fun than sitting in church pews. And I would have skipped the first half hour too if I'd known the opening 'band' was going to be some LAME performance art thing.

I am quite surprised there hasn't been more magnetic fields geek out!
I found a set-list for Thursday night's show here and a recording of the Northampton show here.
Does anyone have a set list for Friday night? It's so hard to remember exactly what songs were played when I was just trying not to cry.
