The Tripwire tells me that ATO Records isgearing up to re-release Liz Phair's AMAZING debut Exile In Guyville on June 24, 2008. I know, I know, Liz has put out some crap-tastic records lately, but this record is one of the greatest of ALL TIME. Yep, I said it!
There will be additional demo tracks and a DVD and blah, blah, blah...
The exciting thig is that it will also be available on vinyl! I can't wait to play "Divorce Song" on my turn table!
Oh yeah, ATO will also be putting out a new record from Liz too, and they promise it will be a return to her DIY roots. Heck, it could even be more like Whitechoclatespaceegg or Whipsmart and I would be cool with that.
Get fired up with this live video of Liz performing "Divorce Song."

This is GREAT news!! EIG is one of my very favorite records, too. I argue with myself whether or not it or Pet Sounds is the best album ever recorded, but those two are always 1 and 2 when I make my all-time favorite lists. Regardless, it is a brilliant and important record that I hope even more people discover.
"Fuck and Run" still makes me cry when I hear it. It's one of a very small handful of songs that has that effect on me.

Fantastic news. Exile has been such a prominent, important record in my life. I think I listened to it every day in college (how cliche) and I recall thinking that maybe one day it wouldn't be so relevant. But it only gets moreso with age.
Now for the rumor-starting: Do we think Liz will tour in support of this re-release, playing all the EIG tracks? That, my friends, would send me spinning.

Chris B,
1. The fact that you would even compare Exile In Guyville to Pet Sounds tells any reader that are an idiot. 2. The fact that you are a guy and think that Exile In Guyville is a brilliant and important record is too funny. This album isn't for you dumbass! This is a girl's album. In the same way that Deerhoof is for guys Liz Phair is for girls! Catch you at the next Lilith Fair!

@roderick jaynes -- I dig a fella who can dig on Exile in Guyville.
And I'd play Exile 10 to 1 over Pet Sounds any day of the week.

Ahh, thanks Roderick! I haven't been called an idiot since the Brandi Carlile review. I was thinking I was starting to lose my edge.
I didn't know liking a hyper-sexual woman who wants to be your "blow job queen" was a girls-only thing. My mistake. I stand corrected.

Exile in Guyville is also one of my favorite records as well. I went to sasquatch the year that she played just to see her play 6 songs, but one of those was "Fuck and Run" and one was "Divorce Song", so it was totally worth it. I certainly hope that this re-release means it'll be re-mastered as well, as the songs always sound so quiet on mixes!

I don't know what you're talking about. Her self-titled was amazing.
C'mon, "Why Can't I"...brilliant...
Certainly not a tell tale sign of 'selling out' or anything...
Sarcasm aside, the vinyl version should be cool.
