Tonight in Seattle:

See any good shows?

It's another Sunday evening, another time to muse about all the fabulous weekend shows. See anything good/bad/otherwise mentionable?

If so, mention it below in the comments, if you please.

Saw Mono in VCF last night at Neumo's. Now, I will say that I am biased because I've known a couple of those guys for quite a while now....but they are sounding better than ever. Kim's voice was lovely and haunting and soothing all at the same time. Te whole thing was spot on. I loved every minute of it, and from what I could tell, the rest of the crowd did as well. Their album is now available nationwide -- everyone should pick it up. www.monoinvcf.com.
If you haven't seen them live yet, definitely check out their next show.

The Stars at the Malkin Bowl in Stanley Park (Vancouver). Awesome sound, and they were amazingly tight as ever. It was weird to see them in broad day light though. Dark rooms with sudden bursts of color seem to match the music better than a backdrop of trees.

Me and a few friends were walking around Belltown on Friday and decided to stop in at the Rendezvous (I haven't been in like 4 years). The venue is better than ever! Didn't know what we were going to see (hear), but we happened onto this band called "Gunbunny". They were totally freaking inspiring - it was nice to finally hear a tight band with great singing and whicked guitar work. Plus they were fun to watch. Don't know where they're from or who they are, but I'm googling them as I write this...

We saw gunbunny on thursday down in t-coma at bob's java jive - i concur, these guys were f*cking good. not sure if they're touring or what.

well i myself got to see Weezer's hootenanny at the vera project, a more-than-a-dream-come-true moment for me, and i don't really give what people say about weezer now because they are my life-changing band. so always they'll have a soft spot in my corazon. and it was fantastic indeed!

i know i'm in new york but, i saw the cure friday at madison square garden and saturday at radio city music hall. the last two dates of tour and two of the best shows i've ever been to. get jealous. all my thoughts and photos at my bloggy.

My band played with and saw the Small Change (and friends) and the Tripwires on Friday at the High Dive. Show was sparsely populated for a Friday in Fremont, but the music was superb. I think "Stay With Me" was made for the Change to cover.

Awesome!

I stumbled into the Nectar last night after checking out the Fremont Fair, and ended up staying for the Dyme Def show, which was a really great experience. They're a group who can appeal to anyone, even a big indie-rock dork like me. Good mixed group of people, lots of friendly mingling, nice underage crowd upstairs. The place went nutso when Dyme Def came out, everyone had a blast!

I saw an amazing show this weekend in Denver. (Full disclosure: my bro is in the band, but trust me on this one.)

The Fluid, who will be playing SubPop's 20th in a few weeks. They were loud, crazy, and rocked the house down. Was really amazing and while I'm not 100% sure how it'll translate to an outdoor venue, they certainly shouldn't be missed.

A small taste (not all that great quality, but...): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvTVjDTTld0

@ Dylan -- Did I read that right? Weezer played the Vera Project? If so, that seems like a pretty effing big deal. What's the scoop? (This sounds just about as rad as when they played my highschool cafeteria - which, of course, happened the fall after I graduated and so I missed it. Blast!)

Kirby&Bang:
Gunbunny is a local Seattle band. I saw them @ the Comet a few weeks ago when I went to see Leslie and the Badgers. Their website is www.myspace.com/wearegunbunny
I'd have to say that the demo tracks they have posted don't do them justice. They sounded great live.

I saw a great kids band called The Not-Its! at the Vera Project on Saturday (right before the secret Weezer show). Anyone who likes to rock out with their kids should check out this awesome new band!! Their next show is at a festival in Ballard called Grace-a-palooza on July 19th!! An added benefit -- this show is totally free!!

Yes! yes yes yes it is true, if you go to weezer's website you can read all about the hootenanny, but basically they did it in 4-5 west coast cities in conjunction with the alt rock radio stations, inviting musicians and giving away 200 passes to radio listeners to come to an secret location and record with a trillion different instruments (BYOI) and record 6 songs. including a cover of creep by radiohead, which seattle's version was so spooky and fantastic.
so that is how it went down. i met brian and rivers. died.

they played your school cafeteria? if that happened to me i would have been suicidal. but don't get suicidal, its okay.

That's awesome, Dylan! I will definitely have to check out their website. Radness that you got to go!
