New Oasis album due October 7: Do you care?
Submitted by imaginary stella on June 24, 2008.Oasis are set to return later this year with a new single and their seventh studio album.
Yes, you read that right. Seventh studio album. I feel like I fell off the planet for a handful of years, because quite frankly I don't think I even knew the band had released anything since What's the Story (Morning Glory).
Ok, I joke. Just last week, in fact, I re-found Standing on the Shoulders of Giants and discovered it has some really great moments.
But really, nothing will ever top What's the Story or Definitely, Maybe -- so why does the band keep trying? Nonetheless, we're going to see Dig Out Your Soul hit the shelves October 7.
The most interesting part of this release is that the band of brothers finds themselves on the road again for a nine-date tour -- with the cantankerous Ryan Adams. The show opens on Aug 26 at WaMu Theater. My money's on this show not making it past its second date before it spontaneously combusts.

I also care. Don't know if I'll go to the show, though, as I heard the WAMU ain't all it's cracked up to be.

Do you realize how freakin' big an artist you have to be to have Ryan Adams as your OPENER? This will be a great show.

Their last album was nearly as good as What's the Story. I've got tickets, and look forward to the show. The only quibble is that I've heard that Zak Starkey is no longer drumming with them. I guess maybe he's sticking with his regular gig as the drummer for The Who. I saw them last time they were in town, and he was amazing. That's what you get when you are the son of Ringo, and were taught drums by Keith Moon!

I am so happy that you all care - seriously. Because despite my smarmy post, I really do still heart most of what Oasis releases. I truly haven't heard the last couple albums, but I'm inclined to give 'em a spin -- especially after your comment, Peter!
And yes, Starkey was a fantastic addition behind the kit for both Oasis and The Who. No one will ever replicate Moon, but he did a great job.
I love how this post has morphed into a discussion about two of my all-time favorite bands...

I care! The brothers G write some really brilliant music. Too bad their more known for their antics! And those shows with Ryan Adams will either be the greatest, or a red hot mess..
