Tonight in Seattle:

Flickr photo of the day: Wolf Parade

Sure! Wolf Parade was, erm, we'll just say a bit toothless I thought last night. Foals are just too high energy to be an opener for a more mellow act.

Foals were a bit on the less-dangerous side than their last performance at Neumo's and indeed didn't play 'Cassius' or 'Red Socks Pugie' and cut their set considerably short. I never got the sense of danger as with show about a month ago. Wolf Parade, however, still could not quite match the intensity despite being very good. Not too bad for a Monday night out though I must admit. I'm not much of a Dan Boeckner but I thing Spencer Krug is fantastic so yeah, I enjoyed exactly half their set.

Missed the openers but had a lot of fun with both Foals and Wolf Parade.

Did they really not play "Cassius" or "Red Socks Pugie"? I thought they did, but admit that their setlists from SP20, last night, and my listening to Antidotes a few times leaves my memory less than credible.

I am liking Wolf Parade's new material more and more each time I've seen it live. At first the songs sound like either a Sunset Rubdown or Handsome Furs song, but then the rest of the band gets to chew on them, play around, and turns them into Wolf Parade originals.

Wolf Parade was fantastic! They sounded great. They've really got the songs down and played together really well. There was maybe a little too much lag time between songs, but the energy on stage while music was being played was great. The new songs sounded just as good as the old ones, and the "harder" version of I'll Believe in Anything for the encore was amazing. Great show even though I'm paying for it today in tired, burny eyes.

First time hearing the Foals ever. It was a really great hour long song...high energy which is nice...but that stumbling around stage looking half drunken and smashing your microphones really should have been left in the 90s, no joke.
Wolf Parade were great and I'm glad I got to see them since i missed SP20. New material is good but damn...so much lower energy then the oldies, especially when played live side by side....the new material just can't compete, there's no passion in it and some of it is just a little too proggy.

On to the real topic though.....what is with the testosterone at Neumos on the floor, this is like the third show i've gone to where i was very certain a brawl was about to breakout between the drunken annoying pushers, the dancers and the tight-wad pricks. I mean, I don't think i helped this situation by slapping a guy in the back of the head that lead to the subsequent fight between the douchebag and innocent party while i sat back an smiled. But damn....i think everyone their needs to chill out and the annoying pushers stay inside a bubble while they get down.....i have proven this a very simple task, to "get down & have fun" while still staying within the boundaries of respect for those around you.

Also, please, dear god, everyone needs to stop taking shitty cell-phone pictures during shows. The world does not need one more megabyte wasted on low quality pictures of members of wolf parade setting up their pianos......

/end rant

Bob, I couldn't agree with you more...
At first, I just thought maybe Wolf Parade attracted douchey ex-frat-boy type dudes with their khaki cargo shorts and backwards baseball hats (two of which drunkenly made wolf calls during the break before the encore, yeah, I unfortunately was standing near them, ugh.) and their dumb blonde girlfriends. Then I realized it's probably not the band who attracts these people, but more likely Neumo's. A similar thing happened when I saw the Thermals there. You woulda thought it was a Metallica concert. And remember how meat-markety and gross Yo Son! got after it moved from Chop Suey to Neumo's?
I don't think last night's show would've been so douchey if it would've been at the Croc (sigh.)!

It was a pretty bad situation. Some of the people in the crowd were raucous, out-of-control, rude, stupid to a point of being unreal. Come on! We’re talking about grown-ups! (21 and over show). One thing is to dance vigorously, jump and have fun…this was punching (with the purpose of getting to front line), pushing and kicking! Not funny, not the result of dancing, it was violence! For some of us who love Wolf Parade the memory of this show will be nightmare-esque. My party wasn’t able to really enjoy it because we got so physically abused we chose to leave and watch the rest of the show outside the venue. It was awful. We go to a lot of shows and we’ve never seen such a demonstration of stupidity.

Cool thing is that outside we not only enjoyed WP but everything happening around Neumo's...It was way better than being inside taking abuse from a bunch of creeps.

oh, one more thing,
i really wish kurt cobain took crowd surfing to the grave with him.....

Oh yeah, Holy Cow! I almost forgot about that. Someone actually crowd surfed. At a Wolf Parade show...
What a bunch of morons.

I watched most of the show from the balcony and it was great, I went down towards the from near the end of the show but didn't see any of the craziness that's been talked about.
I did see the crowd surfer, that was just stupid!
