Tonight in Seattle:

Heath Ledger: Dead

Heath Ledger was found dead in his NYC apartment today, early speculation being that it could be drug-related. Ledger was set to play the Joker in an upcoming Batman flick.

I can honestly say that not much surprises me anymore -- for instance, the footage posted earlier today of Amy Winehouse doing crack. But this has left me utterly shocked.

You can find more details all over the WWW...

I was just on my way to post this. They say sleeping pills were scattered about. I mostly feel bad for his baby and his ex, Michelle Williams, who I really adore. Really surprising, indeed.

Michelle Williams is a doll. "The Baxter" - comedic genius. I'm sure there baby is too cute for words. RIP Heath.

And it all happened in the apt he was subletting from Mary Kate Olsen? So weird. I can't believe out of all the folks out there that are living on the edge, he's the one that passed away. Poor Michelle and Matilda.

New reports coming in indicate it could be suicide...which is just a shame. Ledger was so talented -- he was absolutely fantastic in "Lords of Dogtown." I expected to see so much more of him in the future.

Sad all around.

I agree -- for some reason this news hit my sad button pretty hard. Such a waste.

Just saw him last night in I'm Not There.

Supposedly it was an accident, mixing the wrong drugs and sleeping pills. And it wasn't in MK's apartment.

i found out about this through my coworker(his wife called on the phone all distraught) around 3pm today. apparently, some of 10 things i hate about you was filmed in tacoma and she got to meet him during it and claimed he was the "sweetest guy ever". what a bummer. he was ridiculously talented and mantastically handsome. more talent the world will never see.

I wonder how much of his AP obituary was pre-written.

I forgot about "10 Things" -- now I'm even more bummed. And Chrisb, I must confess I thought the same thing about the obit. I bet he caught the AP off guard.

The only film of his that I liked was "Black Eyed Dog." Brilliant.

interesting tidbit:

Jack Nicholson was furious that he wasn't consulted about the role of Joker being reprised,

and upon hearing of Heath's death, Jack said only "that's awful... I warned him."

I think he was just refering to the use of Ambien, but still. Eerie.

*Shiver.* I always thought Nicholson was creepy, but that's a whole new level.

And from the clips I've seen of Ledger's interpretation of the Joker, it looks like he's gonna slay Nicholson's performance.

Nicholson was being incredibly arrogant and a total ass to say something like that. I don't believe it for a second.
