A question for our imaginary readers as we approach Super Tuesday:
For the 2004 election, TIG featured loads of political commentary on the site. As things are getting heated leading up to the 2008 elections, we're wondering: Would you like to see political articles and discussions on Three Imaginary Girls? Or is it better if we stick to our usual brew of music reviews and chit chat?
I for one am curious to know who everyone is supporting, and how we're all feeling about selecting a new president. I was so personally burned out and depressed after the last election, I'm only now emerging from my funk.
And here's what's providing me lots of hope...
How about all of you -- thoughts?

I for one would love to see political content on TIG!
That video was beautiful, I am so in awe of Obama. I remember the first time I really watched him speak, I was in tears by the end. He's going to do it! I know he will!

Obama definitely has what it takes to be a leader... his issues and stances I'm not so sure about... but what other reasonable choice do we have? Our country needs a leader.

obama is the most inspiring speaker of all the candidates, by far. he speaks to the people in the way a politician hasn't in a LONG time (not DOWN at them, but TO them...))
but honestly, the way he adeptly repositions himself when something he says irks people (ie- afghanistan) or spins whatever he does behind the scenes into criticisms of hillary (tony rezko issue)... i'm not sure he's experienced enough to make critical decisions and stick to them.
the next 4 (or 8) years are gonna be the hardest a president has faced in a LONG TIME, and someone who makes us feel good, and is sexy, might not be the best person for that job.
i see obama as more of a movie star than a political figure. the last president we had like that, who made people feel good with his speeches, and inspired the country, actually screwed things up pretty good for the next 12 years (ronald reagan).
i want someone more hard-nosed, with more experience, who will browbeat the republicans down from their moral high horse, and make 'em deal with the REAL issues, and get the economy and our world standing back in good order.
that's hillary. she's not as "feel good" of a candidate, not even close. and i'd rather hang out with obama than hillary any day of the week.
but as the leader of the most dominant nation in the world, i trust hillary more so than obama to make tough decisions that are good for the LONG TERM, not decisions that will make her more popular in the short term (which is how i think obama would lead).
that's my .02 worth.
oh, and i'd rather NOT have political discussions on Three Imaginary Girls, because music is where i come to when i want to escape all that crap.
peace.

I'd prefer to see TIG keep its focus on music and leave national politics to others. Heck, the two always end up crossing paths anyway, so there will never be a shortage of ways to work in a political discussion.
Most important, though: please keep up the coverage of local issues that affect the Northwest music scene (such as Seattle's frequent attempts to shut down clubs in the name of "public safety"), as well as larger free-speech stuff (Chris Walla's hard drives being confiscated at the border, for example). That stuff cuts to the heart of what TIG is all about, I think.
(And having said that ... go Obama!)

I second Lincolnish. Politics are just too... too much of a downer to soil my favorite music site with!

Well, I guess I'm biased, since I'd write some of the political pieces if you have 'em.
But I, for one, think that music and politics are inextricably linked. The proof is almost too much to print: Springsteen, Talking Heads, Guthrie, Joni Mitchell, hell - everything from the 60's, even Beethoven was political (the Emperor symphony was dedicated to Napoleon).
Everyone on the site might not agree with the political positions that are being espoused, but active participatory conversation is what this site--and much music--is supposed to promote.

I admit I'm torn....
I'm getting so excited for tomorrow's Super Tuesday, I've already warned my SO that I'll be screaming at the television waaaaaaayyyyy more than I did for some football game.....
But I'd like to see us keep our musical slant on it all. Definitely let's talk about who musicians are getting behind and if that changes how we feel about them. Let's review the music that the candidates use as their theme songs (Bill Clinton and Fleetwood Mac anyone?).
There's still plenty to talk about...
I'll come back later and offer up some video treats of the music that get's me fired up and glad to have an opportunity to vote..... :-)

i'm a politics junkie, and i think it's pretty easy for people to avoid articles/blog postings if they don't want to be a part of it.
with edwards out of the race, i'm leaning towards obama. i do think obama's rhetoric far outpaces his policy positions (not that much different from clinton). it comes across as borderline disingenuous to promise hope & change while advocating a half-assed health care plan that has little chance of being implemented. i also think it's politically naive to even consider bipartisanship possible with today's republican congress, and he's likely to get steamrolled (shades of clinton's first term) if he's not careful.

What's scary is-- who do you want to see be taken out in the first year by some backwoods, evangelical, 10 i.q., Republican ignoramus:
1) a god-damn feminist lesbian (what they think of Hillary)
or,
2) some Kennedy-wannabe black boy named after a terrorist (what they think of Obama)
I'm afraid for both of them. But I'd be happy with either as our president! Go team!
More to the point, let's keep the talk about music on TIG!
