See any great shows this weekend?
Submitted by imaginary dana on February 18, 2008.Ahh, I remember shows, back before My Life With Newborn. How I pined for shows this holiday weekend. So I gotta ask all of you -- what were the best shows in Seattle this weekend? And dare I ask, what were the worst?
I heard the Drive By Truckers live at the Triple Door on KEXP, which sounded damn good. And I heard Central Services completely blew everyone's mind at our Dancing on the Valentine 1985 prom benefit night by ending their set with a blistering cover of "Don't Stop Believin'" (huge props to Jeff for hitting Every Single Note on the final guitar solo, no small feat!).
What else, what else? Please share your show going adventures in the comments field below.
Also -- I think I'm venturing out for my first post-baby show this week! I am EXCITED!!

This weekend the golden ticket was a sold-out show at Chop Suey on Friday night, February 15. Tacoma band, Paris Spleen, opened with a short but sweet set and next up were the wacky, Magic Bullets, out of San Francisco, who have toured extensively with The Blakes. They put on quite a show with lead singer Phil dancing his fool sox off (even jumped into the audience for a bit to dance with the girls in the front row).
When The Blakes hit the stage the venue was jam-packed and humming with excitement. Their dancey, jangly, rockin' set was complete with old and several new songs. The audience sang along with every single song and Garnet expressed great appreciation to them saying, "thank you all - you just made my day!" Garnet (guitar, vocals), Snow (bass, vocals) and Bob (drums/ percussion) were all completely sweat-soaked because they gave it their all on stage.
An awesome show all around. Read more & see photos at my website: http://www.jetcityredhead.jankeiraknox.com/

Don't know why it took me so long to see 'em, but I finally heard Visqueen at the Sunset. Great band, great venue! I went out with our bassist Casey and we had a good time, standing near the front of the stage, making eye contact with the lovely and talented Rachel Flotard. Promptly went out and bought both of their CDs at Easy Street Records today. Someday we want to open for these guys!

Fleet Foxes & The Pharmacy at the Vera was fun, a HUGE turnout for FF. Kay Kay and his Weathered Underground at the Triple Door tonight was off the HOOK! I was scrambling about side stage operating a couple projectors!

Best show of the weekend for me was The Foals and The Heavenly States at Chop Suey. The Foals absolutely were wonderful to dance to and The Heavenly States absolutely tore it up much like The Hold Steady. The first band who I can't remember their name had cool lighting and smoke machine going, but that's about it.

I went to the Drive By Truckers on Saturday night and, well, was not very impressed with their show. I love their music, but was left wanting more as far as their live show goes. I found myself more interested in the conversations going on around me than actually paying attention to the band, even though the music was great. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy the opening act, The Felice Brothers! Those guys are some talented musicians and put on one heck of a show!

The Alligators ripped it up. But the people working at KTUB accosted me for no reason about not drinking at KTUB. It was super rude, and completely un-called for.

I saw a little show at KTUB that my friend put together as a booking intern there :] It featured a lot of young musicians (the talented and adorable Whitney Ballen, and my school's celebrities Bad Timing), and a group from Kitsap called the Alligators. It was cute!
