A dollar a record -- not such a bad deal

A Pennsylvania man just unloaded his record collection -- for the small price of $3 million -- on eBay. The collection, his own private amalgamation of genre- and era-spanning discs, contains three million pieces, including 78s, 45s, EPs, LPs, and CDs.

The former owner, Paul Mawhinney, put the batch up for sale so that he could devote more time to his family and health -- and no doubt to spend less time managing this massive collection, which he stored in a 16,000 square foot warehouse.

This brings me back to a discussion we had a while ago about how to best store all your albums... Maybe we should ask Paul!

I bet he's going to wish he held on to his collection when they start making the 80 terabyte iPods.

It looks like this sale could fall through, though. Let's hope not!

UPDATE: It looks like the winning bid is a hoax.
