What's your favorite Bumbershoot memory so far?

This is mine (and probably my favorite Bumbershoot memory EVAR!!):

Meeting Sons and Daughters at the KEXP Lounge.

This really is my OMG moment because last week I wrote "I don't know if Sons and Daughters are the best rock band playing Bumbershoot. They are, however, my favorite."

The Saturday Knights awesome, new material-filled, ferociously intense and hilarious performance at the Fisher Green stage early evening last night. I can't do an official write up due to previous conflicts of interest, but DAMN those boys worked their asses off to keep the crowd jumping, dancing, loving, and laughing. BRAVO!

Here's mad love to Andrew Matson from the Seattle Times for kicking it off, and especially the INSANELY GREAT cameos from Cancer Rising near the end of the set. WOOT!

the Shackletons, just generally being awesome sounding and looking. TMTS was a highlight too, I've been waiting to see them...and I think Chona and I can attest to some Nada Surf luvvin feelinz...

Doug Pettybone going into a Led Zeppelin rift during Lucinda Williams set at the Stadium on Saturday. He was channeling Jimmy Page for a minute and I thought I was going to leave my body for a minute.

Among others:

1. Meeting two-thirds of Nada Surf, along with hearing an astounding acoustic version of "See These Bones" at the KEXP Music Lounge.

2. Dancing wildly in the front row for !!!

3. Hearing the Saturday Knights' creative hip-hop version of the Fleet Foxes' "White Winter Hymnal."

4. Waiting in line for six hours and getting to the front for Paramore.

5. Seeing a crowd surfer in a wheelchair at The Offspring.

Hopefully Death Cab will make this list...I bet they will.

Eating mushrooms which took hold right at the last song of Saul Williams' musical set, making his already explosive set even more intense. The condition, combined with Saul's lyrics, caused me to realize how corporate bullshit Bumbershoot has become, leading to my departure before even pretending to have interest in Beck's performance.

Wow. How remarkably cynical of you. Hope the gate didn't hit you too hard on your way out the gate.

And good luck with your shrooms. Next time try Folk Life.

Too many to count, but if I had to list three it would be:

•Seeing SHIM for the first time. I now have a new favorite Seattle band.

• Walking in on The Maldives set without knowing what to expect. I immediately fell in love with them.

• The one-two combo of Superchunk and Death Cab. Superchunk played like they were in their early 20s not mid-40s. And who would have thought pyro would have been a perfect touch for a Death Cab show. It was great to see the little band from Bellingham all grown up and closing down Bumbershoot.

Nobody, too said on September 3, 2008:

Yeah, cynical and cliche'. You crap on Beck left and right but how uncool of you to name drop drugs. Why not take them enjoy it and call it a night? Why boost about it like a 14 year old girl who stole peppermint schnaps from her mom? You sooooooo get cool points for drugs and indie points for bashing Beck! Talk about a need for acceptance and attention.

1.) Watching Tapes n' Tapes sidestage with the drummer of the Shackeltons.
2.) Watching the Shackeltons at the Rockstar Stage.
3.) Watching the Shackeltons at the KEXP lounge.

Seriously. I think my ilfe is practically complete now that I've seen their live show. They are absolutely my new favorite band.

ELLE, GOOD JOB AT PISSING OFF NOBODY!

Next time you trip, please let him know about it beforehand so he can have a proper wind up and get his angst out all in one post.

elle said on September 3, 2008:

Haha, shit, I cannot believe I pissed off nobody. I was hoping I would at least make SOMEbody pissed off.

And I typed one sentence about Beck. Not like I made a whole blog post calling him "bullshit" or anything…

i initially clicked on this thread just to say that without question, my highlight was superchunk. neko case was lovely, too.

to address what nobody is saying, though, i wasn't high but i did give up my mainstage pass to some random girl because i realized i had no interest in seeing beck. i don't think he's awful (well, the last few albums...), but he definitely doesn't do much for me.

ooh, another highlight was actively avoiding quite a few bands i dislike. it meant not hanging out with some friends, but i think it was for the best. hell, i skipped sunday entirely due to the crap booking, and it usually doesn't take much to get me to buy a weekend pass.

The Highlights for me: The Shackeltons, The Weakerthans, Langhorne Slim and Death Cab. I am highly disappointed more people didn't see and respond to Langhorne Slim's set on Monday. He is AMAZING.
