I'm sure I'm not the only one deeply saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Isaac Hayes on Sunday afternoon. He was only 65 years old.
From "Shaft" to "Chef," Hayes was a true legend.
I feel incredibly fortunate to have caught Hayes' magnificent performance at Bumbershoot a little over a decade ago (I think it was 1995 or 1996). His extended rendition of "Walk on By" still haunts me.
Here's a clip of the song from Brooklyn (I couldn't find any Seattle gigs on YouTube. Post one if you find it!)
He will be missed.

hayes' 'walk on by' (album version only, the radio / single edit does it no justice) is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. there's a lot more to hayes than 'shaft' and chef - hopefully people will look into his back catalog due to this tragedy. RIP!
