Tonight in Seattle:

It's time to dish on Bumbershoot. Who're you going to see?

We are mere days away from the start of Bumbershoot 2008, three fun-filled days of long lines, crazy crowds, and an amazing lineup of bands.

The schedule (check it out here) is pretty stellar this year, making the task of deciding which bands to see (and write about) a bit daunting. Team Imaginary will be at the event in full force, and we're open for suggestions. So convince us: Who are some must-see bands for Bumbershoot 2008, and why?

I already can't wait to kick off the event with Neko Case...

i totally forgot that Monday was Labor Day and thus a day off, and didn't book my plane to Seattle until the weekend AFTER Bumbershoot. so i have nothing real to add except that i'm going to be living vicariously through all of you! :)

The Blakes! I miss those guys. I haven't seen them since last year's KEXP BBQ!

Saul Williams! An incredible showman.

Anti-Flag! They are incredible live!

New Faces! I have the feeling the compliments on their live shows are true from their mature, brilliant debut.

Mono in VCF! I have never seen them live and can't wait!

Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby! I LOVE Eric! One of the best of the Stiff Records lot.

THE SATURDAY KNIGHTS! Oh yeah!

Lee Scratch Perry! What's that smell?

SHIM!!! Again, a band I've never seen live I heard kicks ass!

Etc. ... more soon, once I finished reading the webpage ...

If I go (which is still TBD at this point), there is SO much to see:

BECK! (hands-down most excited to see Mr. Hansen)

Old 97's (but of course!)

These Arms Are Snakes (likely a set full of new material)

M. Ward (hoping Zoe Deschanel makes an appearance for some She & Him action)

Shim (Estey, I'm with you -- I have never seen these guys and want to witness this in person)

New Faces (again with Estey on this one! I just heard their live set on KEXP and they sounded great.)

STP (just for the hell of it. I wanna see Weiland's "sober" antics)

Choklate (been meaning to catch this local chanteuse forever)

Del the Funky Homosapien (duh)

Jakob Dylan (for real. I really liked that first Wallflowers album - sue me.)

The Hands (another band I have yet to see live, but I love their album)

Sweet Water (hallelujah - they're back!)

@Imaginary Stella: yessss the first Wallflowers album!!

If forced to pick only one must-see per day (luckily I don't have to), I'd go with:

SATURDAY: M. Ward

SUNDAY: FINAL FANTASY

MONDAY: SUPERCHUNK

My must-sees?

New Faces
The Blakes
The Saturday Knights
The Black Keys
Nada Surf
!!!

...and of course, Death Cab.

Beck!
Throw Me The Statue!
The Whigs!

And of course all the brilliant art at Flatstock!

i will not lie that flatstock is probably the most stimulating part of labor day weekend for me! its so great.
band wise, im pretty excited to see throw me the statue, beck, and nada surf. nada surf, like, a LOT.

Since I'm probably only going to make it to Monday, my schedule is as follows (I mapped it out a week ago):
Vince Mira to Blitzen Trapper to John Vanderslice to Arthur and Yu to Battles (heard they are great live) to either Minus the bear or Death cab, and since I saw DCFC at Sasquatch I'll probably go with Minus the bear who I haven't seen before.

Bands I'd like to see from the other 2 days:
Tapes 'n Tapes
Mono in VCF
Band of Horses
Throw me the Statue
The Walkmen

To Stella and Chris- I saw New Faces at the Block Party and liked their set. Sucks that they are playing at the same time as Throw me the Statue but they are worth seeing. They're set was tight with good energy.
Good stuff all around!

It's all about These Arms Are Snakes and Sondre Lerche for me.

I am going monday, and am most excited about :

Battles &
Black Eyes & Neckties

We're only going on Saturday this year, and our picks are:

Neko Case, !!!, Throw Me The Statue, The Walkmen, Anti-Flag, The Valley, and West Indian Girl.

It's killing me that I'm missing Death Cab, The Blakes, and The Saturday Knights :(

oh god, the walkmen!!!!!

I'm dying to see Blue Skies & Sunshine, but I'll probably leave early if Grey Rain hogs the stage.

I almost garuntee that Death Cab's set will suck at that stage, and plus everyone who will be there will be probably the most annoying people at Bumbershoot.
I'm only going Saturday but I'm pretty psyched for...
Neko Case
Thao Ngyuen and the Get Down Stay Down
The Round w/ Damien Jurado, Buddy Wakefield, Jen Wood and more
!!!

Anyone who thinks Beck will be better than !!! is kidding themselves.

Beehive on NW Court stage, SAT at noon. Great local rocktronica duo.

Battles are going to blow my face off, as they did last year at Neumo's. This time, though, I will have the sense to bring some damn earplugs.

And I must say, it's really nice to see a band you love, as me with These Arms Are Snakes, playing at an event like Bumbershoot. igStella and indieguy322: See you in the front row.

I'm also personally excited about checking out the films. Although it seems this is an oft-overlooked portion of the festival, the movie house always fills up. There is always a really great thought provoking one that lingers in my mind; I can think of one I've been endlessly searching for online from four years ago!

And is it wrong of me to admit that the last time Death Cab played at Bumbershoot, I walked out?

when !!! redefines themselves each album, lasts 15 years, and puts out one of the crowning achievements of an entire decade of music, I'll stop kidding myself when I see Beck.

but until that time I'll skip the indie cred and get my $40 worth.

Not sure if I'll be able to accomplish all these, but I'd love to see Lucinda Williams, Neko Case, Mark Pickerel, and Star Anna. You all should come out to our show on Monday 3pm @ Sky Church!

!!! IT"S TIME TO DANCE!!! DAN DEACON...FERAL CHILDREN...THROW ME THE STATUE...SO GOOD

Beehive is amazing! I am also going to be there for Beck and Neko Case for sure!
