Amazing {imaginary} photography, free whiskey and a chocolate fountain THIS Saturday night
Submitted by three imaginary... on August 15, 2008.
Imaginary photographers Kyle Johnson, Hilary Harris, Blush Photo and Christopher Nelson as well as great Seattle Photographer Angela Dawn are showing some of their work this Saturday night at Blush Studio. Come hang out, enjoy free whiskey, tunes, and delicious chocolate fountain.
As ChrisB wrote in this week's Three Imaginary Girls column on the KEXP Blog:
It is really exciting to recommend photo shows in consecutive weeks. As a reviewer, it is always more fun going to a show knowing that your words are going to be accompanied by some excellent photos as well. My favorite show in 2008 was the LP release party for Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground at the Triple Door — my favorite NW band at my favorite venue, but one thing that helped make that evening special was knowing beforehand that one of my favorite photographers, Kyle Johnson, would also be shooting that show. I was pleased with the review I wrote but his photos were breathtaking.
It should go without saying that I am, of course, very eager to check out this show in an art studio in SoDo (55 S. Alaska Street, suite 303, 8-11pm). Johnson and four other outstanding local photographers are showing their work and the opening party is Saturday night. Also included are Blush Photo, Christopher Nelson, Angela Dawn and Hillary Harris. I’m in awe of the talent of each of these artists, so I highly recommend everyone go to this opening.

Man, I'm scared of jocks, but the photography of Hilary, Kyle, and Christopher is so amazing and compelling I'm really tempted to go.
Seriously -- my father was a professional photographer and I've always been extremely picky and petulant about most people who think of themselves as good shooters. I usually hate most rock and roll photography, but these three have a warm, human, loving aesthetic about what they do. They're like the New (best!) Wave of music photography in Seattle, and I'd BUY them each a whiskey or two!

Thanks for coming out and braving the jocks! :) It was great finally meeting you Chris, and everyone else who came out to support the show. I had a fabulous evening and hope everyone else did as well. Can't thank you enough for your kind words and support.

It was so great meeting you, too Christopher! I really had a fantastic time at the show and talking with you and the other artists. I didn't get to meet Hilary (who I am sure is wonderful and kind as well but I would have spent most of the time talking to her apologizing for spelling her name wrong) but you were all so accessible and friendly. To go along with just how talented you guys are was quite incredible.
Can't wait to see even more of your excellent work!!

Just fair warning to you music and photog fans -- the Seahawks' first (preseason) home game is also tomorrow night, starting at 6. Traffic could be crazy. The streets could be crazier!
(I'm all about both - the sports and the rock. So if you see a gal wandering around the photo event dressed in vintage Hawks gear, come say hi!)
