Weezer go red...
Submitted by imaginary liz on April 21, 2008.Weezer have announced details about their next album (release date June 24, 2008) and get this... the album is going to be self-titled! Yes, for the third time in their six-album history, they will go all self-titled, and round out their primary color scheme theme (having done blue, green, and now red).
I'm still debating whether they jumped the shark with the "Beverly Hills" video (or if that was done way before that), but we can only hope that the Rick Rubin sessions breathe life into them like a new REM album. Although, with a lead off single titled, "Pork and Beans" (to be released on April 22) I've got to admit I'm a *little* nervous.
Has anyone tracked down a leaked version of it yet? What do you think?
Here's a sneak listen / video of "Pork and Beans" -- Um, did he just sing about Rogaine?

I cannot even imagine how confusing this is going to be in the long-run. How many kids will put "The self-titled Weezer album" on their birthday wish-lists, only to get multiple copies of the blue album (the best, and the only one of the trifect one needs to own, in my opinion) when they really wanted the new red one? How's the RIAA tracking record sales? (Guessing maybe based on the copyright date.)
Sigh.

@Jen Savage -- true, not for pigment. But red, blue, and green are the primary colors of light. I'm sure that's what Weezer and Liz both had in mind, right?

With every new Weezer album that comes out, there is a small part of me that is desperately hoping for the band to recapture the magic that is the first two records. But a larger part of me knows that the magic is gone, and the new album will undoubtedly be a heartless lump of suck. -sigh-

"Heartless Lump of Suck" would be a great band name.
Mike Mess said on April 21, 2008:
I agree! They are so formulaic and boring now. It's like every record is a clone of the one before it complete with more imperfections just like that awful Michael Keaton movie 'Multiplicity."

Oh, darn! That always happens when I think I'm sure about something.
I'll go sit in the corner with the Blue Album until I've learned my lesson...

Hehe... no, you were right, Jen! I was just getting my nerd alert on.

By the way, if you read the URL of this post and not the story, it says "Weezer Gored." That makes me chuckle a little bit. {Dana, now who's the nerd?! Hehe}

am i the only person in the world who really likes the Green Album??

Make Believe was a heartless lump of suck, but the Green Album rocked.
Erik Gonzalez said on April 21, 2008:
Everything up to Make Believe was at least OK. I liked Maladroit more than the average person I think, but Make Believe just sounded like Rivers obviously grasping for that brass ring.
Dylan said on April 22, 2008:
no, i love the green album! it was my first weezer album. and weezer changed my life, so i guess thats kinda sorta a little bit important...make believe was dissapointing in about six hundred ways.

Oh Rivers.
Speaking of "Rogaine", Ingrid Michaelson mentions the stuff in her song "The Way I Am", too. Is Rogaine the new derriere?
Diana Salier said on April 22, 2008:
I also loved Maladroit, with the exception of "Keep Fishin'" and "Dope Nose," which not surprisingly were the 2radio singles. Death and Destruction is aawesome and so were December and Slave and all the others. Has anyone heard the Rivers Cuomo album Alone? There's a song on there called "Crazy One" that is also really good.

i would so buy a Heartless Lump of Suck t-shirt. i might have to start the band just for the shirts.

(pssst... Green is not a primary color. Red, yellow and blue are the primaries; orange, green and purple are the secondaries.)
Love the blog!
