Video: Death Cab For Cutie - "I Will Possess Your Heart"

Ben Gibbard bundles up and braves the piano in Death Cab For Cutie's latest visual offering.

My only worry: Won't an eight-and-a-half minute video cut into all those Cribs repeats MTV's been incessantly airing lately?

In other news, another Narrow Stairs track ("Pity and Fear") leaked thanks to NPR and the magic of webripping. If you want to be even more confused, angry, or amused with Death Cab's new progression then, by all means, put your Googling skills to use.

Oh, and Ol' Benny G wrote a piece entitled "The Meaning of Life" for Paste, too. It explains a lot:

"I decided a handful of years ago that I just want to write songs that you can understand as soon as you put the record on. There’s no need to veil what’s happening in the song the way I used to."

Naw, I'm not much a fan of the song, believe it or not. I've been big into Death Cab since adolescence, so I still keep fairly good tabs on them, regardless of what they're pumping out.

So I guess the obsession lies with the band, not the song.

I'm really liking this song. Maybe not for the song itself, although it's fine enough and has some nice subtleties to it, but more because Death Cab could have gone such a safer route and just released another Soul Meets Body. I mean, there isn't even a real chord change until six minutes in! Is this actually getting played on the radio in its entirety? Either way, indie cred reestablished.

Also, try putting the vocals to a merseybeat backing track in your head. Sounds like early-period Lennon in a way, no?

Finally: I would so possess that girl's heart.

whoa. i just realized the actress in this video looks like an older version of the one from the video for Movie Script Ending..which would make sense, it could be the same person. anyone else notice that?

Does MTV even have music videos anymore?? I can't decide if I like this song or not. It is 'danceable'...
