I like that the bookers have made an effort to keep good local bands in the mix (Man Plus, Velella Velella, etc) along with those huger than thou touring bands.
Also of note, at least to me: this year's Block Party falls on my birthday. So that's nice.

I've been dying to see Les Savy Fav. I'm very there.
Surprise guest, eh? Any thoughts?
Jon Harthun said on April 15, 2008:
I thought it'd be fun to start a rumor that Public Enemy is the surprise guest.
ChrisB said on April 16, 2008:
It's not going to be Public Enemy. It's Prince. He's already playing Coachella and Bonnaroo. It's the next stop on his festival tour.
Jon Harthun said on April 16, 2008:
Flavor's got a new sitcom coming out. It'll be a great way to promote the show.

this isn't just underwhelming (like bumbershoot), it's bad. i only see a few bands worth catching & they're all local ones i can catch any given month.
hipster dance party is not how i'll be spending my money.
Jon Harthun said on April 16, 2008:
Yeah, I was super excited at first. Then I called my friend about it, and as I began to read the lineup...realized it wasn't that great. Vampire Weekend is at the end of their 15 minutes, and I saw Girl Talk last year.
Luckily Public Enemy is closing the party...

well its no what-the-heck-fest but a certain rap group could change that...
Mike Mess said on April 15, 2008:
LSF "opening" for Vampire Weekend? Please say it ain't so. Now tell me: who rocks the party?
and ooohh, the Hold Steady...me thinks we'll finally hear a bunch of new songs. Yay!
