Tonight in Seattle:

Bumbershoot 2008 sneak peek

Another gem of info just hit my imaginary inbox! This one for the annual Bumbershoot fest @ Seattle Center.

The biggest surprise on the list for me is Wreckless Eric, who's no doubt capitalizing on a comeback based on his song's prominent use in the lovely "Stranger Than Fiction."

Also surprising is Stone Temple Pilots. Not necessarily in a good way...

I'm very excited to see M. Ward on the list -- and I hope that one of the "many more guests" to be announced will be his shared-stage friend, Zooey Deschanel, for a She & Him date:

Without further ado, the first list:

Beck, Stone Temple Pilots, Lucinda Williams, Neko Case, Ingrid Michaelson, Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Jakob Dylan, !!!, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Saul Williams, Joe Bonamassa, M. Ward, The Walkmen, Asylum St. Spankers, Dan Deacon, MIDIval PunditZ, Blitzen Trapper, Bedouin Soundclash, Tim Finn, Dale Watson, John Vanderslice, Final Fantasy, The Fall of Troy, Orgone, Forro in the Dark, Ryan Bingham, Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby, Arthur & Yu, Darondo and Nino Moschella, Pacifika and many more to be announced.

Huzzah for Neko Case!! Always a treat...

I'll second that and add one for Lucinda Williams (as long as she only plays a few songs from West!)

STP?!! WTF??!! Suddenly this is 1992? Effing Bumbershoot can't even get a headliner from this CENTURY!

I dunno, STP will stand out like a sore thumb, but I really wanna see Weiland do his weird dance-like thing on stage. Or self-destruct. Whatever.

Let me second the love for M. Ward and throw in assorted giddiness for John Vanderslice.

Yay for !!!. The band, not the punctuation mark. Not that I have anything against the exclamation point; I like the "chk" nearly as much as the semicolon.

It seems like every year at Bumbershoot, most of the acts I'm psyched to see are people who come through Seattle all the time anyway that I could see at a fairly small venue for a relatively cheap ticket price. Beck is probably the only exception to that here.

Erm..apparently I'm the only one glad to see STP on the list. But unlike the majority of you, I was not even close to being old enough in 1992 to see them, so this will do for me! (Now that I've outcasted myself by coming out with my love for music from the early 90s...)

I'm with Jeanine for !!! and everyone else for Beck!

Seriously, the announcement about Wreckless Eric has totally thrilled me. Anyone remember Nick Lowe a few years back? DAMN. Bring on the Stiff label reunion at B'shoot!

I hope Lee "Scratch" Perry remembers the cosmic love I sent him in an AstroPOP last year and gives me a shout out from the stage! (Hey, I can dream can't I?)

STP rulez! I remember catching their show at the height of my grunge phase (yeah, I admit to having one). They played at the University of Puget Sound field house. All I can remember about the show was how cheap the t-shirt was.

I CALL BECK!!!
