The B-52s: Not decommissioned yet

Hard to believe that its been 16 years since the last B-52s studio album, but here we are and yes it has been. Well, Fred, Kate and Cindy have announced that the B-52s will be releasing a new album called Funplex in February 2008. I can imagine the Athens band could make a nostalgic comeback yet again... or they could just release yet another unnecessary reunion album.

On that note, I'll post my alltime favorite B-52s song, "Private Idaho," sort of live on TV!

{Hat tip to NME for this news.}

the fact that there has been a 16 year lull between b-52's albums shows that god has empathy for mankind.

I still miss Ricky. Ha ha ha... I still REMEMBER Ricky.

Because I am ancient.

Truly, once the post-Ricky "Bouncing Off the Satellites" album came out - they just haven't been the same band. Mostly because Keith is writing all the songs now.

No way! Whammy! and (to a much lesser extent) Cosmic Planet were both fantastic records.

And who *didn't* love hearing them on Rocko's Modern Life?

that "no way" was in reference to the Cos at #1... ha.

DON'T GO ON THE PATIO!
Best video ever.

Shane, you mean Cosmic Thing? Or is there some other B-52s album I totally missed? I'm pretty sure I had them all on cassette back in the day, even Mesopotamia.

Yay to B-52s comeback!

haha! Yes Betsy, I did indeed mean cosmic thing.

Wild Planet + Cosmic thing = Cosmic Planet?

I love the B-52s. They were on Rocko's Modern Life? That's so funny! Wasn't Devo on the Rugrats?

I adore the B-52s, but like *Not Decommissioned Yet* as an album title more than *Funplex*.

I hope they tour behind this record - even if it sucks. They're close to the top of my list of bands I'm dying to see live.

I guess the biggest problem for me (well, other than what I mentioned earlier) is that solo record that Fred did. What with today being halloween and all, I have already heard that effing "Monster In My Pants" atrocity too many times. Ugh.

On a related note, I used to run into him ALL THE TIME when I lived in New York. He's very... short.

Betsy: Mesopotamia is the best ep ever. I think they hated it, and I think David Byrne denied having produced it, but I happen to think it's outright brilliant.

The B-52s live at Six Flags Over Georgia was one of my earliest concert experiences. I was probably nine or ten. I know there was some hit of theirs that they didn't play. I want to say it was "Love Shack." The women that were standing next to my mom and I stood there singing it at the top of their lungs, and they kept shouting, "We'll sing it 'til you do!" It was pretty amazing.
