Tonight in Seattle:

Did Molly Ringwald Line Dance?

In an attempt to quell the “bump and grind” at a Corvallis, Oregon homecoming dance, the faculty chose an ‘80s theme, hoping the kids would make some classier moves. Apparently the students took to it, participating in pre-dance lessons and showing up in ‘80s gear to get their groove on — while Western line dancing.

I don’t remember slipping on legwarmers and doing any kind of line dance save for the “Thriller” routine. Then again, I didn’t grow up in rural Oregon, so maybe that’s how they roll(ed_?

It's my senior year this year, and I organized a group of about 60 seniors to pull a class prank, which was to bust out the Thriller dance at our Homecoming assembly. It was so bad-ass... thrilling, if you will.

John Cleese had to deal with dancing in Footloose, and modern day parents will have to soon enough. I love the adults take on freak dancing: "Asked by parents to describe the dance, Connolly offered this: The girl leans forward and the boy puts his pelvis against her backside. Then, he thrusts."

Students get dirty (with a "u" and two "r"'s) on the dance floor... it's a fact.

Having lived in Corvallis (I wouldn't exactly call in rural considering its >50K people and the home of Oregon State University), I can vouch for how weird this town can be. The town itself is mostly trapped in the 80's anyway, 99% white and sort of the perfect place to try something like this.

That being said, people need to start listening to real dance music again anyway. Is 80's music real dance music? Beats me. I think I just don't get the kids these days.

"It all seemed like a flashback but there they were, students in 1980s garb - leggings, fluorescent colors, preppy sweaters - doing a country line dance to a techno-version of "Cotton-Eyed Joe" complete with an Irish fiddle."

this is worse than a thousand freakniks.

The Rednex version of "Cotton Eyed Joe" isn't from the 80's anyway ... its from 1994.

A song that released in 1994 to boot...

Hah! Jinx, Erik! You owe me a Coke.

Ouch!
