We've been asked by the editor of another fine local publication what we think the greatest songs to ever come out of Seattle are. What an intimidating, yet awesome, question!
While the obvious older bands come to mind (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, yadda), we tend to be more focused on the music scene of the past 5-6 years so our thoughts turn more toward songs by the Long Winters, Carissa's Wierd, Death Cab, or Math & Physics Club when we think of our favorites.
But really, we know our readers are way smarter than we are.... and we'd love to hear your thoughts. So tell us: What are the greatest songs to ever come from Seattle?

Hate to be all classic rock about it, but "Are You Experienced?" by Jimi Hendrix should not be overlooked.
5 Levi said on November 7, 2007
Since Jimi lived in England and the album was recorded in England, I don't really think it can be said to have come out of Seattle in any significant way.

I have been listening to a lot of the Fall Outs lately. Whom are one of Seattle's longest running bands. Their song Zombie is pretty much a classic.

I'm not sure what to make of this question.
I guess, my initial pass might be
In the Rock category:
"Heart Shaped Box" by Nirvana
"Touch Me I'm Dick" by Mudhoney
"Would?" by Alice in Chains
"Alive" by Pearl Jam
"Hunger Strike" by Temple of the Dog
In the Hip-Hop category:
"Posse on Broadway" by Sir Mix-A-Lot (good job Cosby)
"No Rest for the Weary" by the Blue Scholars
In the Modern Rock category:
"Such Great Heights" by the Postal Service (should this count as "Seattle"?)
"Our Days in Kansas" by Tullycraft
"3rd Planet" by Modest Mouse (are they really Portland than Seattle?)
"True Affection" by the Blow

We were going to do our radio show on Sunday on Washington/Seattle. This helps so much!! Thanks guys!

EG, nice Freudian slip on the Mudhoney song . . .
And isn't the Blow more of an Oly/PDX thing? I'm not an expert, but that was my impression. I guess this makes me the geographical nitpicker. Ah well.

Just confirming more of what others have offered with a few song tweaks....
Nirvana - Heart Shaped Box
Temple of the Dog - Hunger Strike
(gulp)Queensryche - Jet City Woman (this is my devil's advocate self trying to cover all the bases.....)
Heart - Barracuda
Soundgarden - Spoonman
Sir Mix a lot - Posse on Broadway
Goodness - Wicked Eye

Yes!
Thanks Sam for suggesting USE, I'd completely forgotten....

i would agree that the blow is more olympian than seattlian.
if we were to include, say tacoma, then The Sonics would definitely make my list.
also, i'd like to make a super-special shoutout to harvey danger's "flagpole sitter." and while The Ventures have never ever REMINDED me of seattle, 'surf rider' is absolutely epic and locally-grown.

Levi@15 - I blame watching Singles too many times for that mistake.
Mary@18 - I was trying to think of an appropriate Queensryche song too. Its hard.
And as for the Blow, I'd love to annex Olympia. Ah well.
