Any great shows this weekend, imaginary pals? Did anyone catch the Purrs CD release show? How about the Stars of Track and Field show last night at Neumos? The Tripwires with the Young Fresh Fellows? Minus the Bear?
With so many great ones to choose from, we figure there must be loads of stories this gray Monday-back-to-work-day. Tell us about the shows you saw this weekend!

This weekend I had the distinct honor to perform with Nothern Soul artist JJ Barnes at the Capitol Hill Arts Center. You don't know who he is?? You should check him out. This performance was part of the Rare Soul Weekender, brought to you by the Emerald City Soul Club. Mr. Barnes and the Brothers of Soul both had great perfomances and lots of dancin' booties on the dance floor...which is a rare sight in Seattle. It was great fun to be apart of such a great experience and a great weekend.
Both groups are from Detroit, Michigan with a life time of experience and hits. Both groups got their success in Europe and continue to do so today. Mr. Barnes was excited to play this rare event as he hardly performs in the US. We were glad to have him here.

thursday: drop the lime/curses, le castle vania @ chop suey
saturday: dandy warhols @ pyramid brewing house
honestly, i'm not a big dandy warhols fan (i couldn't tell you one song that they've done, sorry), so this show didn't hold my attention for longer than a song and a half.
club pop at chop suey was a fun time - drop the lime's over-the-top stage presence made his show (an everything and the kitchen sink mixture of techno, baltimore club, baile funk, ragga toasting, and actual singing) very fun. i think his style would hit a coked-up nyc crowd much better, but seattle was (for the most part) able to keep up. le castle vania shut the night down with new electro / fidget house crowd pleasers. nice, i'm interested to see what happens at club pop for their next show...

The HEPBURNS and ANTHONY ROCHESTER!!
I'll say it again... that you all missed a really beautiful show. It is depressing to see great music come through and no one come to the show.. truly.
:(

I saw the Unnatural Helpers and the Lights at Funhouse - from what I can remember, it was great!

I went to Chop Suey on Saturday for Low vs. Diamond (w/ Something for Rockets).
I want to like Low vs. Diamond for reasons such as a.) their singer grew up here and seems like a nice fellow, b.) a lot of people in England really like them a lot, apparently c.) their sound and style is very Killersy, and, in these early stages, I embrace that, and d.) when their shaggy keyboaordist/maraca-ist walked by me, he left a very pleasant hair-product smell in the air.
Unfortunately the show was bad. Just awkward and flat and unsatisfying. Oh well. Better luck next time!

Don't know if you can call it a 'show' as there wasn't any of the compulsory posing, beer or other 'magic' on the floor to walk through, but I hit an in-store at Music Millenium in Portland to catch Carrie Akre and her guitarist swing through several songs off her new album and other solo stuff.
It worked, but I still prefer darker, louder, floor stickier environments........that sounds bad......
