BATTLES! Been a long time since a band has affected me that way. The Croc show last July totally blew me away and the Neumos show this weekend met my now high expectations. Like an organic robot tearing down the forest i think I can safely say they are the only ones capable of producing those sounds. Don't count on any Battles cover nights.

Despite the somewhat lame venue, Art Brut and The Hold Steady were excellent tonight (at the HUB, UW).

I would have really like to have seen Battles last night, but unfortunately I had family in town, and not the Battles-enjoying kind either. :(

Saturday Looks Good to Me was charming, lo-fi and free in Olympia at the ABC house. Plus, it was the actual Halloween. Nothing like the indifference of Olympia to counter the exuberance of the holiday.

The Avett Bros at La Zona Rosa in Austin, TX. Who knew a boy could rock so hard with a banjo?

Siberian, Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground and Ships at the Crocodile on Friday! WOW!!! It was Siberian's CD release party. The show was full, loud and each band had their own unique sound- I highly recommend checking out all 3 bands if you haven't already:)

I caught the Riffbrokers at the Skylark on Friday . . the Skylark is well on its way to become a viable destination, what with all the great shows lately. The Riffbrokers were very chill - they traded in a bit of the rock for some acoustic guitars, had some friends come up and play solos with them, and generally spooled the vibe out on a mellow tip. Good beer drinking tunes.

This didn't happen over the weekend, but still worth postin'. My girlfriend and I saw The Cave Singers on Halloween at the Matador Records sponsored show in the parking lot of Havana. It was scary good, and the band was dressed as The Tin Man, The Scarecrow, and The Cowardly Lion. Good times, indeed the Best Halloween Ever.
