Today (November 21) is No Music Day. I'm not sure how I feel about such a thing... so I'll treat it as no bad music day... or no major label music day. Down with Mariah Carey and Maroon 5 (for the day)!
Here's the full scoop from BBC Scotland. Looking over their schedule for the day looks like No Music means more news and commentary? If there's a No Music Day -we should at least get a no talk day:

That whole thing sure reads like a mission statement to me. Just a very vague, useless, ultra-stupid one.
I'm gonna have to say, "down with No Music Day and the terrible, directionless author(s) of it's Lame-o Manifesto!"
One thing that confuses me though... Why is it only being celebrated until 2009?

Apparently I'm just not in-the-know, because the gentleman behind this "No Music Day" movement, Bill Drummond, also co-authored a book called "The Manual" in '88 that: "proved to be an influence on 2000s British girl group The Pipettes, who formed after reading the book in order to explore the idea of being a pop machine."
This guy is also responsible for literally burning a million quid that he had originally planned to donate to struggling bands/musicians until: "We realised that struggling artists are meant to struggle, that's the whole point."
So instead.... He lit all the money on fire and made a video out of it...

Burning money instead of giving it away = moron.

The mission is more in context... one of those things when right when you're leaning in and about to grasp it, you lose the concept altogether.

bill drummond is a genius. the antics of klf, especially later in their career, are legendary. shooting blanks out of machine guns at a crowd to announce your retirement is absolutely brilliant.

liz, I think your no *bad* music day might be a success. I'm gonna have to do more research on Drummond and the KLF and give 'em a listen...
