My Bloody Valentine confirm new release, tour
Submitted by imaginary dana on November 8, 2007.In this article on NME, Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine confirms that the iconic shoegazer band will not only tour in the not-too-distant future, but will also release a new record. The article states:
My Bloody Valentine's Kevin Shields has confirmed that their rumoured reunion is definitely on.
Shields also added that a new studio album by the band would appear this year.
He said: "We were making a record in the '90s around when the band broke up in 1995...and I continued with Belinda [Butcher- guitarist/vocalist]. We kinda made most of an album... It's going to be this 96/97 record half-finished, and then a compilation of stuff we did before that in 1993-94, and a little bit of new stuff."
He added: "I pretty much know what the one that's going to come out this year is going to sound like because its already pretty much three-quarters done already... it sounds like what we sounded like - different, but not radically different. People will go, "yeah, it sounds like My Bloody Valentine."
In a week cluttered with news of new releases and tours from my personal favorites (Nick Cave and the Magnetic Fields, to name a few), this is the icing on the imaginary cake. Think the record will be any good? It's been a long, long time since we heard from MBV...

I get the impression that Shields is just trying to clean out his musical closet, but maybe I'm just jaded ...

I must be jaded too, cause I also thought it sounded like he was dragging some cliches howling from his vaults, if ya know what I'm saying.
Still, I'm hopeful the long-shelved MBV songs might actually be pretty damn good.

it definitely sounds as if he's padding out a half-completed album with other stuff he has laying around. the way i look at it, though, is that there will probably be at least a few tracks which are well worth the wait & any potentially bad songs. any officially released MBV is better than not having it at all.

unreleased mid-90's mbv tracks? yes, please. i would be much more skeptical of new material from mbv given the recent material from shields (remixing bow wow wow?).

granted, his remix work is dubious, but the stuff he did for the lost in translation soundtrack was good, especially city girl. i'm optimistic, i think he's still got it.

Seriously . . . would anybody on this page not make the walk down to the Paramount if MBV was playing? I have to say, I'm rather excited.

I sure hope the new record doesn't suck. I hate when that happens. Like with The Smashing Pumpkins and ZeitGeist. eek
