Interpol: Keeping it Indie

In an effort to regain their indie cred after selling records enough records to buy their own homes (the nerve!), Interpol release a 6-song live release (recorded from their July 2007 performance at London's Astoria) that will be sold exclusively through independent music stores today.

Here's the full scoop:

New York City's own Interpol will release INTERPOL LIVE, the band's first-ever official live recordings, today, exclusively through thinkindie.com, which represents the best independent music stores in America. Thinkindie.com services independent music retailers with exclusive and rare items that are not available via major chain and big-box stores. Visit thinkindie.com for a complete list of outlets represented.

The six-song Interpol Live EP features two tracks from the band's gold-certified 2002 debut Turn On the Bright Lights ("Obstacle 1," and "Stella Was a Diver And She Was Always Down") and four tracks from Interpol's current album Our Love To Admire, which debuted at Number Four on Billboard's Top 200 chart - the band's highest debut in the U.S. to date - upon its release by Capitol Records in July 2007. Those tracks are "Pioneer to The Falls," "Mammoth," "Rest My Chemistry," and "The Heinrich Maneuver".

Can't make it to one of their upcoming shows in Europe, Australia, New Zealand or South America, Interpol will appear on Late Night With Conan O'Brien on December 10th.

Grim - so true! What would be lame is if Sam Riley played Paul Banks in the made for TV movie. Or would it be poetic?

Either way... good for Joy Division... good for Interpol!

@The Grim -- to Interpol's credit, they've managed stayed alive a lot longer. Not that this necessarily impacts album sales...

I know there are many haters, but I stand by Interpol. Our Love to Admire has gotten a ton of spin time at our casa this year. I think it's a great record. If I get really bold, I might start saying it might make my best-of list... but I would never make a proclamation like that when it's not even December yet. ;)

The thing about Our Love is that it's intrinsically Interpol. It doesn't sound all that different from anything they'd done before, which is a major accomplishment (pun intended) as the band jumped to a major label.

And Dana, it *is* on my top list! (Hey, I'm going out of the country for the last 3 wks of Dec., so I've got to make my list now!)
