Tonight in Seattle:

New releases for the week, from Easy Street Records

After many lean New Release Tuesdays, we finally have one with a bit of meat on its bones!

Seattle labels have out a couple of hot releases: Barsuk releases John Vanderslice's Emerald City and it is just plain gorgeous! Sub Pop has put out Tiny Vipers Hands Across The Road. Jesy Fortino is Tiny Vipers and her style of stripped down guitar played around lovely vocal melodies is haunting and memorable. Even when you see her live, sandwiched between more rockin acts, she commands attention and and gets even the most raucous of patrons to hush and listen.

Everyone is talking about how Hanson and Silverchair have grown up and are putting out really great records. I am still not sure I buy it, but I am willing to give them a listen!

LOTS of good old country to feast upon if you have the hankerin' to, and lots of other big releases from some icons (Prince, Sebadoh, Flaming Lips). Check them out!

We are missing the most important thing here: BILLY BOB THORTON!

I know! I saw that and a big question mark bubble popped up over my head.

Also, have you noticed that each week there seem to be more and more dead artists with new releases? How many Johnny Cash records can get released? And look at Chet Atkins with two of 'em! Wacky...

Also, I saw Teddy Thompson open for Rufus Wainwright back in April and he was incredible. What a gentle, beautiful voice that guy has! I'm definitely interested to learn more about that release.

Teddy's been opening for/playing with Rufus forever now — I think every Rufus show I've ever seen has featured Teddy. You know he is the son of Richard & Linda Thompson? True.

I did not know that! Betsy, your information overflowth!

BILLY BOB!

I think I glossed over it because I have been slowly digesting his musical prowess since he has a track on the June Carter Cash Tribute record. It actually isn't terrible, in fact there is something about his voice that I like. Oh God, there I've said it.

TALENTED THOMPSON FAMILY

Teddys new record is pretty nice, but his best work (in my opinion) is on his moms forthcoming record "Versatile Heart" out 8/14. In addition to many songs co-written and co-produced by Teddy. There is a real nice Rufus song that was written especially for her that features Antony on harmony vocals.

PREFAB SPROUT, Steve McQueen: Legacy Edition
Is this getting a domestic release? Steve McQueen is a pop masterpiece! This reissue is remastered by original producer Thomas Dolby, and it comes with a second disc of new 'acoustic' versions of 8 of the songs. It's a beauty.
