Journey becomes Journey cover band
Submitted by Erik Gonzalez on December 6, 2007.In an example of (a) the internet as a source of insanity; (b) bands attempting to recapture their youth and (c) a practice in illogical reasoning, Journey recently parted ways with their lead singer Jeff Scott Soto only to replace him with a Filipino singer named Arnel Pineda.
What is so special about Mr. Pineda? Well, he was discovered via Youtube performing the best of Journey with his Quezon City Journey cover band, The Zoo. Yes, Journey replaced their lead singer with a singer who covers Journey. So, really, has Mr. Pineda changed his career in any way? Imagine the conversation:
Arnel: "Hey guys, I'm going to get to sing Journey songs!"
Guy 1: "Dude, you already do that. What, did you join a new band."
Arnel: "Yeah, I'm in Journey now!"
Guy 2: "You're covering Journey songs with Journey now?"
Arnel: "Yeah!"
Guy 1: "I don't even know you anymore."
Anyway, we can all look forward to a NEW STUDIO ALBUM from Journey 2.0 in 2008!
And in honor of the new lead singer of Journey, here's "Don't Stop Believin'" (with his original band) because look where it got Arnel!
{Hat tip to NME for this.}

Was Tim "Ripper" Owens really THAT busy?
Actually, just last week I read on Idolator that the rumor was that they'd hire Patty Smyth to be the new Journey singer.
I bet there's tons of money to be made on the casino circuit for a Journey cover band with actual members of Journey.

q: how different is this from the doors cover band with three original members of the doors and the dude from fuel singing lead?
a: the doors are actually important to rock history.
