Tonight in Seattle:

Let's start some Crocodile rumors of our own

With the closing of of our Crocodile Cafe seeming less and less like a rumor and more like a sad, cold fact, a couple of immediate questions have entered my head. Since I have no answers, I propose we start a few imaginary rumors by speculating on them here:

  • Who is going to buy the Crocodile? (I can't think it's going to be torn down and turned to condos.... not yet, and especially because I don't think Tula's and the other spaces on that block are going anywhere).

  • Where is Jim "the best sound guy in Seattle" going to go next? Jim is without equal in this town when it comes to making every band sound their absolute best, and a super nice guy to boot. He's legendary. Surely every club in Seattle has attempted to contact him in the past few hours to try to woo him over, no? I for one hope he settles into another great club -- and that he gets to bring that amazing sound system with him.

For what it's worth, my crack at the rumor bat: I wish Three Imaginary Girls could buy the Croc. But since the only money we have is imaginary... I think Dave Meinert should buy it. He seems the most likely to ship-shape the place up, ensure it earns enough money to stay viable, and keeping the same genre of music (with some political fundraisers thrown into the mix, which would be rad, really).

And I predict Jim will end up following former Crocodile booker Pete Greenberg to Chop Suey... and that Chop Suey will start booking great indie-bills again.

This is pure conjecture and is in no way based in any objective facts that I know of. It's my way of putting it out to the Universe that I don't want my favorite rock club closed forever. I hope it works!

i think neumo's. or the showbox/that empire. that man is pure and utter gold! any venue on the planet would be sooooooooooo lucky to have him. he makes bands love the venue he works in, because he makes them sound GREAT. i (and everyone i know) cannot say enough great things about jim!!!!!!

but don't change it too much, ok?

well, i can tell you that jim is sad not to be a part of imaginaryliz's birthday show......and that he will be doing some baking and crocheting (and having some quiet time) for the next couple of weeks.

you doubt my crocheting skilz? just ask annabanana from the pretty parlor!!!!

a bunch of fans are going to start a co-op and buy it. kexp will host the fundraiser to rally future investors.

If that's true, Josh, I'm definitely in.

Jim Anderson: Sound Guy Extraordinaire, Sumo loving crochet master…. the man's got skillz!!!

Jim, I second barbs comments. You are pure gold and this town should, and I suspect will, be beating your door down with offers.

I do have to admit that is Jim was able to make any band sound good at the croc, that man must be an acoustical genius! The layout of that place sucked for music.

don't know if this was posted on any of the other boards but it's appropriate for this one:

(PS-it's a joke, so far...)

it's not true yet, but maybe we can all make it happen! who knows a wealthy donor to start things off?

Now that the croc is closed .. i hope someone comes in and buys it , and changes the layout (i.e. puts some $$$ into the place) .. it did blow ... The showbox and chop suey must be smilin right now ...and dont forget the Skylark

i have it on good authority that our pal jack endino is buying the place...

+5 brightened spirit

Really? REALLY???!?!

Cause that would be AMAZING!!!!

aww Dana!

Maybe you can can create a "donate" link where people can give TIG money so you can afford to buy it and put it under TIG's name. um... GENIUS! :D

Come on Easy Street Records! You can buy the Croc and get a party bus to take folks to the venue after in store performances. You can have a 2nd Easy Street Cafe and a great place to sell CD's and merchandise. This is a no brainer, a cross promotional extravaganza! You hear that, it's oppurtunity knocking....

Iz this you just starting a rumor???? That would be so rad!!

Anybody got $495K burning a hole...?

people don't understand just how much of an INSTITUTION this joint is... around the world... i'll slit my wrists if it becomes anotehr 12 story Condominium... i've been to london, people ask "have you played the crocodile"... scotland "have you played the crocodile?"... anywhere on the east coast... "how's the crocodile?"

we offered PWRFL Power his first slot there on one of our bills, and he was thrilled and told me how the Crocodile shows up in Japaneze comic books, whenever a comic band comes to the states, they play "The Crocodile" in the storyline... no matter what city they go to, the club is called "the crocodile"...

the problem is, it doesn't just need a new owner, it needs "investors" to get it back into shape... but what a GREAT venue... a full kitchen... seperate live room... bar that's far enough removed it pretty much operates independently of the rest of the club...

c'mon people!!! SAVE THE CROC!!! (it was sad enough to watch it die over the past couple years... and see the crowds dwindle for GREAT bands... and lose those awesome fries not too long ago... and see one of the best sound guys on the entire west coast offer his talents to smaller and smaller rooms of folks... thanks Stephanie for all the awesome work over the years, don't fret too much, and i hope you're still inspired enough to find the right person to take over?!?!... you deserve it, and so does the entire WORLD of music... a great legacy!)

*i'm gonna cry*
