Another Best of 2007 list to dissect
Submitted by imaginary liz on December 3, 2007.Today's Best of List to discuss comes courtesy of Uncut magazine.
Erik, do you agree with this one a little more (since you're now synonymous with the letters LCD for me now)?
And again with TG, TB and TQ? And Rilo Kiley is TERRIBLY HIGH -- beating Bright Eyes and Iron and Wine? Where is their indie-cred? They started off so strong... but completely lost it by #32 (if not before).

I was likewise pleased to see Grinderman on there (I suspect that record will be overlooked as it came out so early in the year), and Beirut (which I love love love). PJ Harvey at #3 was an odd choice (and I say this as a huge PJ fan who likes the new record a lot -- it doesn't deserve *that* high a ranking). And no Okkervil River?
Do I even need to say this Kings of Leon record in a top 50 list makes me go meh?

as a fan of dfa/lcd soundystem - i will say that 'sound of silver' is a very boring album, spotty at best, but slightly better than the self-titled debut. the middle of the album is simply boring and not at all innovative. it's like taking the best parts of the fall, improving on them 1%, and standing behind it like it's revolutionary.
also, does anyone really listen to the fake-ass country-revivalist americana-lite stuff anymore? didn't that well run dry about 50 years ago?

Wow Cosby, I had an entirely different read of that LCD album and I fancy myself as a big DFA fan. Huh. That's why these lists are fascinating (and maddening).

Nice to see some love for the Cribs. I was bummed that their Neumo's show last week was canceled.
OTOH, Arctic Monkeys at #2 and Okkervil River not even on the list completely invalidates this one.

I really enjoyed Sound of Silver, I think it definately deserves to be on the top 10, maybe not number 1. This list doesn't upset me too much :]

Um, OK, well, I agree with #1 and ... well that is where it ends. Arctic Monkeys #2? Come on. Klaxons in the top 10? The inclusion of the abomination unto mankind that was the new Rilo Kiley disc (sorry Betsy ... er, Ash). Kings of Leon?! This list plays it pretty safe too, leaning towards the AAA bands that have musical cred (Steve Earle, the Boss, Plant & Krauss, Wilco ??) I am happy to see M.I.A., Grinderman, Von Sudenfeld, but too little, too late.
I can imagine the fellow who might have put together this list - not to say a single person did but if it was a composite - you'd expect to see a 40 year old, slightly balding man with thick-rimmed glass, a black t-shirt for a record label like Anti or Rhino, worn jeans and Converse All-Stars. Am I right, people? (Not to say that this isn't my fate, either...)
