Tonight in Seattle:

Imaginary Playlist: The Features {brash}, Lutes and Liars {comforting}, Amanda Mair {Swedish}

Looking through my playlist, there are three songs that have bubbled up in the last week that I wanted to share with you, in case, your itunes is like mine and they fell in the cracks when they first hit the record store racks.

The Features - "Rambo"
The Features have long been a favorite of mine since their release of Exhibit A.  Sure they have connections to Kings of Leon and hail from Nashville, but their songs are far from homey and relaxed. They are brash and haunting, battling bible-belt ghosts with the intensity of Okkervil River (before they've had their morning coffee) and Spoon (after they've had a few beers).

If you pick up the Rambo 7" you will not be disappointed. The b-side, "This Much I Know" is a gem as well (previously unreleased). You can hear both by clicking through the listen link --> {listen}

Lutes and Liars - "Lost My Way"
While the Features captured my attention with a crash of sound, Lutes and Liars has completely disarmed me with their  warm, friendly songs, complete with three-part harmonies. This Seattle band's debut album, By Land or By Sea, pulls from the worlds of the Old 97s, Stornoway and Kevin Devine, making it a comforting warm hug perfect for the cool fall nights ahead of us. {listen}

Amanda Mair - "Doubt"
It always baffles me when folks know what they want to do with their life before the age of 25, let alone have a talent for it.  At only only 16 years old, Amanda Mair channels her inner Dusty Springfield / Kate Bush backed up by an aired 80's new wave synth.  It's a little bit Robyn, a little bit Erasure and it has the Labrador Records stamp of approval, which is good enough for me.  {listen}

HEJJJ, you should come see Amanda Mair in London on 11 Nov! We're putting her on as part of our Cosy Den/Librarians Wanted collaboration. Please spread the word! :) Silja LW xx http://www.facebook.com/pages/Librarians-Wanted/119454024803659#!/event.php?eid=168262139923926
