Owen Holmes (bass player of Black Kids) has recently started his own project titled Gospel Music that takes the lo-fi bedroom pop that I adore up a notch. With the help of some guest superstars, GM songs burst with a cuteness factor of 11.
Case in point (and admitedly the only song I've heard from the new Gospel Music EP) is "Automobile" which features a duet of Owen and Tracyanne Campbell of Camera Obscura and is quickly becoming one of my favorites of the year {download / listen}.
The EP tracklisting goes a little something like this:
"I Miss The Shit Out Of You" with SoKo
"Gamophobia" with Shirley Simms (The Magnetic Fields)
"Automobile" with Tracyanne Campbell (Camera Obscura) {video}
"Reinheitsgebot" with Darren Hayman (Hefner)
"Are Your Parents Still Together?" with Cassie Ramone (Vivian Girls)
I must get myself all of these songs asap (available digitally through Kill Rock Stars for only $3.99!).

This just totally freaking made my night. Thanks, Liz! So great to hear Darren Hayman again especially (I've always wanted to write a critical/adoring discography of Hefner for 3IG -- one of my very favorite bands of the late 90s/early 00's). Viva les KRS!

And now upon listening to the track for the 50th time -- there's definitely some Bartlebees in there... oh how I love the Bartlebees (and this track!).
