Last night's Old 97s show was the dreamiest night I've had in a long time. We started off by sneaking into the band's soundcheck, getting primo happy hour-action at Frenchie fancy Maximillion at the Market {oui oui!} then heading back to the show and having our vintage embroidered cowboy boots knocked off by both the Old 97s *and* their opening band David Wax Museum. The full recap of the night will be up in the next 24 hours {complete with set list, blow by blow recap of each dream weaver swoon, and tons of hot hot amazing photos}, but for the time being, let's sit back and drink in the brilliance of last night with this here photo of the day post.
Portlanders, head the advice of everyone at the Showbox last night, go see the Old 97s at the Wonder Ballroom tonight {July 1st} -- and you'll be handsomely rewarded by having the opportunity to pick up their new 4-song Mimeograph EP {which will be in record stores July 6} and includes covers of “Rocks Off” (The Rolling Stones), “For The Girl” (The Fratellis), “Driver 8” (REM) and “Five Years” (David Bowie).
And everyone everywhere, if you do that friend likey thing on Facebook, you can get a free 3-song live EP!

If someone poked me in the chest and asked, "Who REALLY blows your mind live?" The Old 97s would leap to mind immediately. There are few bands these days I think EVERYONE needs to see at least once -- and it wouldn't hurt a damned bit to see them every time. They remind me of The Replacements when that band was on their very best nights, but soaked more in bourbon and Hank than beer and Big Star. SWEET!
