Tonight in Seattle:

Three Imaginary DVDs to see: Zombie comedy, a soulless Paul Giamatti, and love, NY style

Putting aside Oscar mania for a day - here's some good stuff that just came out on DVD!

Zombieland: Hard to believe, but true: I haven’t seen this yet. Mainly because I’m not a Woody Harrelson fan, so I’ve been wary that I’ll like it. However, I did adore Jesse Eisenberg in Adventureland, and we all know how much I heart Zombies, so I’ll give it a whirl now that it’s on DVD (although I am sick of hearing: "Time to nut up or shut up!", but they get extra points for playing Van Halen in the preview):

Cold Souls: I will be buying this IMMEDIATELY. Paul Giamatti is f’ing brilliant in this as a version of himself who decides to put his tortured soul in storage in order to get some work done. Unfortunately, the wife of a Russian mobster steals it to up her acting game (thinking all along that it’s Al Pacino’s). Definitely a comedy that makes you think.  Clever & beautiful:

New York, I Love You: The Americanized Paris, je t’aime (the producer is going to make several of these as a series - next one will be in Shanghai, followed by Jerusalem, followed by Rio). This isn't as great as the anthology set in Paris – but they did a pretty good job. 12 loves stories set in NY, with directors including Natalie Portman, Mira Nair…Brett Ratner (his was actually pretty funny) and more. My only real beef? Why’d they have to try to "tie" the narrative together rather than let the stories be completely separate, like in Paris?

Well, that and Bradley Cooper. Man, I hate that guy:

In general, the music in "Zombieland" is pretty excellent. Hopefully nobody's spoiled the best part of the movie for you yet, because I think it's much better as a total surprise. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you'll know once you're watching the movie when it happens.
YAY! And I haven't talked to many people about it - so I think I will be. Will let you know, as I intend to watch it SOON.
Can’t stop watching it on DVD of Zombieland
