Tonight in Seattle:

Get scorched by Cry Baby at Central Cinema

Grab a cold beer at air-conditioned Central Cinema while you enjoy John Waters 1990 juvenile delinquent musical, Cry Baby.

The breakdown: Depp as sexy bad-boy Wade “Cry Baby” Walker, woos good girl square Allison (Amy Locane, who I may have crushed on harder on than Johnny – she is GORgeous) to the absolute horror of her parents. All the usual Waters regulars are here: Mink Stole, Patty Hearst, Rikki Lake, Traci Lords (seriously vamping it up), Iggy Pop - even Willem Dafoe as an angry prison guard.

This is one of my favorite Waters films: high camp, lots of laughs, 50s stereotypes & teen angst (The scene where Cry Baby is explaining to Allison how to make out is one of my faves: "Touch me before I EXPLODE!) + catchy music with tongue-in-cheek lyrics. I can't think of a better way to get out of the heat.

Cry Baby, you’ve scorched me man.

{Cry Baby is showing at Central Cinema now through August 6th at 7pm (all ages) and 9:30pm (21+)}

This movie has a soft spot in my heart because I ended up on the same flight as Johnny Depp when he was flying from Vancouver to Baltimore to film Cry Baby. Johnny Depp was my favorite thing ever at the time(he still is... ok , he's tied with Owen Wilson) so I was too nervous to talk to him... oddly, he and my mom had a great conversation while I stood there amazed at his Deppness.
Omg. Awesome Liz! I am so jealous. My plane-claim-to-fame was meeting Morris Day & The Time - still cool, but no Depp. :)
Iggy Pop is one of my very favorite parts of this movie. "You caught me in my birthday suit, buuuuuuuck nekkid!" So bad ass! Have you ever noticed that when they show it on TBS or some cable movie channel that they always add extra strange things that aren't in the video or the original movie? They seem to change em up too- like there was more with the Swedish exchange student and Wanda, a whole song when they played Chicken at the end, etc... The whole French kiss scene still makes me uncomfortable... "I won't get mononucleosis from this, will I?"
Liz- That's about the cutest story ever! But, at least your mom talked to him and you got to listen ;)
@ Amie- I think if I would have sat next to Morris Day, I would have freaked out pretty hard. I think I'd just have ended up using his own pickup lines from Purple Rain on him, and giggling like a big ol geek! "...You'd make a lollypop TOO happy, girl." I think I might have also offered him my compact.
Mimi - don't get me wrong! I was pretty f'ing excited about Morris Day, and Jellybean, and the rest of the Time! I almost did the Oak Tree on the plane. :) And I KID YOU NOT: Morris was drinking Courvoisier...on a 9:30am flight. And this was only about 5 years ago, not in his 80s prime!
God, that's so badass. Was he with Jerome?
Mimi - YES! I only wish he'd a mirror with him. :) They were highly entertaining.
