Tonight in Seattle:

Monday morning check-in: Ramona Falls, Harvey Danger, or...

Fishboy

This past weekend was one of great small shows around town - and a couple big ones like the Goodbye Mr. Harvey Danger shows on Friday/Saturday and the Ramona Falls/BOAT/Y La Bamba show at the Croc on Friday night.

The highlight of my weekend was the Fishboy show at the Vera Project last night. Those Denton boys bring it every time. I have no idea why they aren't hugely famous. Each show is full of jumps, cowbell banging, a trumpet part here and there... and their songs are impeccably catchy. If you want to see them before they head home, Fishboy has a show in Olympia on Tuesday at the Nightfinger Complex with Sundance Kids.

What did you do? What was your highlight?

Do you have any recommendations for this week leading up to Bumbershoot?

Went to the Ramona Falls/Boat/Y la Bamba show on Friday and Ramona Falls in particular was better than expected. I thought it would be pretty good, but since this album came out like a week ago, this concert was more or less my third listen (or so) and I realized during the show that I like it a lot more than I thought I did.
Boat was good as usual, and Y la Bamba, while being the most down tempo of the 3 bands, still had some really good songs so I can see why they're getting love down in Portland right now.
Also went to Bat for Lashes on Wednesday night-I know, not really the weekend- but it was fantastic too, even if she did play pretty much the exact same set list as she did 4 months ago at the Croc. John
I'm still compiling my notes & shots - what a great weekend! avett brothers/heartless bastards on friday, and an emotionally charged last show ever (ever) with HD on saturday at the croc - feels like rOctober pre-funk for sure.
I just posted the Ramona Falls review from Friday's show - I agree w. John in Ballard, I was happy to hear the album live befoooore I heard it recorded - I thought it was great!
