Sweet Sera Cahoone will be bringing her haunted brand of alt-folk to the sweet, shiny stage of Columbia City Theater this Friday, January 21st. And we want to send you and a friend to soak up all the magic as our super-special guests!
Just send an email along to tig {at} threeimaginarygirls.com with the subject line SendMeToSera by 3pm on Friday (same as the show, January 21st). We'll pick a lucky winner and put you on the guest list with a +1. Now that's an easy feat! If you can't wait or don't want to press your luck, mosey on over to the event's Brown Paper Tickets page and pick yourself up a pair (or four). At a $10 cover, these puppies are going fast.
We'll see you at the show!
21+ / 9p / $10, with Kal Cahoone and Ghosts I've Met

Get ready, ladies and gents. It's time to get your Rhett-o-sexual on.
The Old 97s are going to be at the Showbox this coming Monday {January 24th} and we want to send you and a friend to the show! Come stand in the front row and bask in the glory of all things Rhett. Boys and girls, serial ladykillers, straight out foot-stompin' fans and everyone in-between -- if you've got a heartbeat and a hankering for a good time, you've found yourself the right show.
Don't believe me? Take a minute to dig on our review of the last time we saw these boys come through town. Talk about swooning to the max! And as if a night with the Old 97s isn't enough all by itself, opening the show will be none other than the esteemed Langhorne Slim -- who we've loved unreservedly since seeing his KEXP in-studio back east at the Museum of Television and Radio, c. 2005.
We’re pleased as punch that former staffer and all around great guy Chris Burlingame’s new endeavor Another Rainy Saturday is doing so well! So we recommend you put on your dancing shoes and head over to Columbia City Theater this Saturday, January 22 to celebrate both the launch of Chris’s site and his birthday (woot woot).
Who’s playing? Viper Creek Club, Tea Cozies, Concours d’Elegance and Katie Kate. You can buy tix for $8 each here, or HELLO: enter to win one for yourself and a date by shooting an email to us {at} threeimaginarygirls dot com with the subject line: weheartchrisb, and tell us why you want to go. Send it off to us by Friday, 1/21, noon so we can randomly select a winner and get you on the list!

We are counting down to the moment that we get to {gently} plop our imaginary arses on the knee of Santa Vanderslice for a pretty photo taken by photographer extraordinaire Laura Musselman at the Imaginary Holiday Office Party next week {December 16, 2010}.
But we know that things haven't always been so indie-rock for all of us... and we want proof! Please share your favorite / best / worst / funniest / cutest photo of you with Santa by posting it in the comments section of the Facebook invite for the Imaginary Holiday Office Party.
We'll reward the photo with the most 'LIKE's by 9a December 13th with a pair of tickets to the Imaginary Holiday Office Party {Thursday, December 16 at the Columbia City Theater}.
We can't wait to see what Santa looked like when he has his photo taken with you!
{I know it doesn't look like I wearing a skirt in the above photo. Short skirts were in that year!}
One of my favorite albums of the year comes from the Oxford-based band Stornoway. It's an understatement to say they craft sumptuously understated melodies that draw from ponds of the Decemberists, later-era Lucksmiths, and Nick Drake and would sit comfortably on mixtapes between Teenage Fanclub, Belle and Sebastian. Given the line of influence, it's no surprise that the band members met while attending Oxford University and that there is an ornithologist and a Russian translator among its ranks.
The songs on their 2010 release, Beachcomber's Windowsill, craft a soothing journey that meanders with graceful guitars and strings, playful keyboards and drum section, and shiny hopeful vocals that pierce your heart, summoning the memories you hold closest.
Stornoway will play their first show in Seattle at the Crocodile on Thursday, December 9, 2010 with Head and the Heart opening up.

Listen up: November 18th will be the last time Bronze Fawn graces any stage. Their bio mentions the sound of the band being "lush... shoegaze with 70's-inspired prog-psychedelia" which, in my book, translates to GOOD TIMES. Get your drink on (this is a 21+ show) if you drink, smoke if you got 'em, or whatever your pleasure may be. Also, if you show up, we can whisper all sorts of things about Bryce Shoemaker... he plays guitar in Bronze Fawn and is a former school-mate of mine. Can anyone say "drama club"?
You. Me. Bronze Fawn. Last show. November 18th. Neumos. 21+. And guess what? We've got two tickets to give away!
To enter the contest, simply email tig {at} threeimaginarygirls dot com with the subject line DontStopBelievinInBryce, and tell us why you deserve to win. The more creative, the better! And you only have until November 16th at noon to enter... so don't delay.
As if you need more convincing, Bronze Fawn will be playing with Eighteen Individual Eyes. Think Blonde Redhead with a healthy side of rock, and just a smidge of late 90's/early 00's mathiness. If any of you out there were ever into Primrosa, you will probably be into Eighteen Individual Eyes -- point is, they're not to be missed.
Basically, you will totally cry into your Four Loco if you miss this show. No joke-o.

The summer between my junior and senior years of college I saved up all summer to reward myself with the best Back to School gift ever, the Galaxie 500 boxset that featured their three records, a cd of covers and rarities, and the required 48-page booklet. Since then it has been my go-to boxset whenever I need to bask in the loneliest reverb or find comfort in the stark ivy league crackles of guitar.
Now fast-forward a few years to the first time I heard Frank Black (many moons post-Pixies) sneak into the opening chards of "Where Is My Mind" at the Showbox almost a decade ago. My knees turned to mush and I got lightheaded. I remember I had to look directly into the stage lights just to regain composure and convince myself that it was really happening: I was really hearing a favorite song performed live even though I had long thought it impossible.
I think something very similar is going to happen next Tuesday {11/16} at the Crocodile is going to go seconds into hearing Dean Wareham and band mosey into his 2010 version of "Strange" {or "King of Spain" for that matter}... and I want you there next to me.

There's a ton of great shows going on Friday -- but we're particularly excited about the Black Whales / Dan Mangan / Jared Mees and the Grown Children show that's happening over at Columbia City Theater. The Black Whales are releasing a 7", it's Dan Mangan's first Seattle show in over three years, and the whole thing is being presented by our friends over at Sound on the Sound. And we've got tickets to give away!
We would love to send you and a friend to this 21+ show, and here's how we're going to do it: just sent an email to tig {at} threeimaginarygirls dot com, and tell us why you should be the winner of these ticktes! Be sure to use the subject line "WhalesAndManganAndMeesOhMy" so that we know it's you.
Get those entries in soon, because we'll be picking a winner Thursday afternoon at 3pm... and should you be the type that doesn't like to tempt fate, just mosey on over to the Columbia City Theater website and pick up some tickets the old-fashioned way. In either case, while you're waiting on that email confirmation, make good use of your internets and dig on Dan Mangan's latest album, "Nice, Nice, Very Nice." Trust us -- you'll be glad you did.
We'll see you at the show!
There's so much amazing show options swirling around, many of us are on overload with our red warning lights blinking. One reason this month is so packed with some of our favorite bands is thanks to the folks at City Arts who have put together a three day schedule that makes even SXSW and CMJ festers weep.
To push things a little bit closer over the overloaded-with-giddiness edge, we've got TWO chances for you to see an amazing show for free!
