Tonight in Seattle:

Who are you voting for in the TIG Best Northwest Releases of 2008 Readers' Poll? (updatedx3)

Mere moments ago, we posted our TIG Best Northwest Releases of 2008 Readers' Poll, for your voting pleasure. We hope you cast your vote for your top five favorites. This has been yet another killer year for music from the great NW, and we recognize how hard it can be to narrow it down to just five. But please, do you best.

It can also be quite the challenge to recall every record released this year -- especially those pesky January/February releases. We plan to keep a running list here of NW bands that released at least one record in 2008, for voters to use as reference. We'll update this page with bands who receive votes, as well as suggestions that come in the comments. So please, if you know of a band, pipe in below!

M. Bison!!! Not Bad EP is the best! came out in feb, that pesky time of year...

Michael Vermillion- Last night on earth

Sam Squared - self titled

Feral Children - Second To The Last Frontier

And a very Rosie (Thomas) Christmas!

So much to choose from. Way to go PAC NW!

Pssst... Police Teeth's record came out last year, and their new one comes out next year. But if it counts, I'm totally cool with having it in my top 5 local releases two years in a row!

We Wrote the Book on Connectors put out a fantastic album called Ride It Out Like a Turbo Horse. It came out in November and it is wonderful.

These Arms Are Snakes released one in 2008. So did Minus the Bear (some re-issue type stuff).

Updated!!!

Don't forget Truckasauras!
Tea Parties, Guns, and Valor

Here are three more releases from 2008:

Poland - "Most Of Them Are Clockwork"
Poland - "Schoolboy Crush On Che Guevara"
Alligators - "Piggy and Cups"

Very nice indie-pop all around!

Man Plus - Suicide Songbook and the remix ep by the band were both new levels of awesomeness.

A great, under-the-radar Seattle band with a 2008 release:

By Sunlight

James Pants & TacocaT!

The Cute Lepers also put out a pretty great album this year.

buh-bLAM - "Eagle Vibrato"

Westerly - "Rodeo"

Updatedx3, ya'll. I don't know about all of you, but I look at the list above and kinda get blown away.

Two artists that were on my best of '07 list that did not put out records in '08 - to my knowledge - (Ms. Led and The Cops) are on the list above and two that were on my best of '07 list that did put out records in '08 (Jenni Potts and Grand Hallway) aren't.

Does British Columbia count as part of the Northwest?

Have I mentioned that I miss the Seattle music scene?

Amateur Radio Operator's Sirens of Titan came out in January.

Others:

- Weinland's La Lamentor

- EARTH! The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull

- In a Field, by The Crying Shame

Oh shit, I forgot Red Jacket Mine: Hello, Old Cloud

Ya missed The Liars Club with their self title EP that came out in June.

The Old Believers released 'Eight Golden Greats' this year. It's one of my favorites!

THE PURRS!

....if you miss the Seattle music scene, go listen to the Purrs. Irreverent and thoroughly enjoyable.

Booyah.

Romance put out a new album last month called "The Divide". Pretty good.

Black Nite Crash - Array! Best NW Release of the year!

Kaylee Cole!!! Shes amazing!

The Quit had an album called "minus tide"

The Quit had an album called "minus tide"

crown aruba! eponymous album released at the very very very tail end of oh eight!

If anyone is keeping up with the Tacoma music scene, you'd know about Kusikia and their release of "Turtle Wars" which kicks some Northwest ass! yeahhh

oh no, is starfucker not being recognized yet?! oh lord. their debut, self-titled album is magical and i have been listening to it nonstop. i wish i could somehow go back in time and be listening to it for the first time again...it is that good!! cheers

I agree. Freaking great record, also good live.

YES thank you. i am seeing them with natalie portman's shaved head this saturday and i cannot contain myself. prepare to dance. cheeers

I didn't see Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground on the list.

Maybe not "best of"-anything worthy, but we (Facts About Funerals) put out a record this year that got some pretty good local reviews (and some national/international reviews too).

it's got a November/December sort of feel to it (a little dark and cold)... and might be worthy of a few spins when you've been locked in your room, avoiding the snow, hearing the spiders hand weave their webs above you...

afterall, sad is the new happy.

merry christmas,
rob

Great list. You guys do an amazing job compiling the year's local artists. Here are local CDs on our year-end faves list that are not among your nominees.

Jake One - White Van Music
Eastern Grip - Griptheria
The Globes - EP
At the Spine - Vita
H is for Hellgate - Come For the Peaks, Stay For the Valleys

Also, two FYIs:

- Why? are from Oakland
- Battle Hymn is probably Battle Hymns? Formerly The Western States?

Also, from the "holy god would you just stay retired" camp, CANDLEBOX put out a new one this year.

So did the Supersuckers.
